r_b23
I purchased a Minolta Maxxum 5000 and Vivitar 283 auto thyristor flash at a sale and was wondering if someone would be kind enough to tell me if these two are compatible with each other?
Thank you for your time.
Member69643
Yes. The 5000 was before Minolta converted to their proprietary shoe, the one Sony, Minolta's heir, has finally abandoned.
r_b23
Thank you. I was concerned because the 283 only had one contact on the shoe, where the Minolta 1800AF flash (that also came with the camera) has four contacts. Do you think the Vivitar is a better flash? I am very new to this.
rick_gerbehy1
You will need to set your shutter speed to 1/60th or maybe 1/125th for the flash to synch with the camera. Not sure of the synch on that camera. A dedicated flash would have set it automatically when it turned on.
ali_baba2
it should sync at 1/100 max

btw if you want the user manual of your 5000 you can find it here http://www.vikenk.com/minolta_manual.htm
together with lots of other cameras, give a look at the site and maybe theres the manual for the flash too
