jphotog
Hi, My Nikon Y48 yellow filter has gotten stock to my HN-2 lens hood (metal to metal). I was wondering if someone can recommend a trick how to separate them? Best regards, Jonas
jean_yves_mead
Holding the hood, press the filter hard against the sole of a training shoe or plimsole. You should now be able to unscrew the hood.

dhbebb
If another time you don't have a trainer handy, wrap an elastic band around each item and try to turn them using the absolute minimum of force. Excess force causes the filter mount and hood to distort and stick even more!
michael_darnton2
The other way to do it is to not exert pressure from both sides. Using the rubber band method, use your thumb to do all the pushing, and the opposite finger only for support. Squeezing from both sides distorts the ring and makes it grip harder.
aplumpton
It won't work in extreme cases, but the easiest way to unscrew a stuck hood or filter is to place your thumb and index finger on either side of the hood or filter on the circumference of the filter or hood mount and move the stuck accessory in the loosening direction. Light force applied there in the direction followed by the spiral works wonders. What Michael says about the opposing forces on the ring is right.
