PVS
Dear,
does anybody know why my prints are printing out blueish.
I use the correct driver for semi glossy paper and print on epson R1800.

Thanks for any reply
digitaldog
And you're using a good ICC Profile?
This isn't really the best ink jet for B&W, you'd want something like a R2400 which as the Advanced B&W driver functionality. I don't believe the 1800 can do this.
Author “Color Management for Photographers" & "Photoshop CC Color Management" (pluralsight.com)
patricklavoie
any Epson printer below the 2400 will have this blueish tint, depending of the profile use from almost not there to in your face blue... You want real dead neutral BW? you want a used 2400, 2880 or anything like that.

sorry, no magic trick for what you have.
norman_valentine
Does your printer have an option to print with black ink only? That is what I used to do with my R1200 printer and got fine B&W prints.
patricklavoie
BW ink only yield to more crunchy BW with a bit more *noise*.. since only 1 color is use... theres is fine bw and theres is amazing stunning bw like what pro do ... the first *fine* could be perfectly acceptable for most.. maybe its ok for the OP?
i personnaly cant stand with this result, knowing something good exist and could be achieve.. for my need of course.

But the point is, if you want stunning BW, the 1800 is not a printer that can deliver that.
digitaldog
I don't disagree that the newer printers is the way to go.
I also don't expect the OP to necessarily go out and buy a new printer. So once again, I want to make sure the OP is using all the inks but printing correctly using a good ICC profile.
Author “Color Management for Photographers" & "Photoshop CC Color Management" (pluralsight.com)
RaymondC
Not sure if it is possible, but I have a Epson 2100/2200 the Colormunki doesn't profile my Epson SemiGloss very well. I also did ship my targets to someone who offered to help me too but that didn't work out either. I did bump into a Color Mgmt specialist at my camera club who gave a presentation and she offered to manually edit my ICC file and now it is working much better. Maybe that is an option ..
PVS
Wouw, thanks a lot everyone,
The thing is that since i upgraded my mac from leoperd to lion the quality, clor and B/W when dramaticcally down.

I am aware that the R1800 doesnt give good B/W but earlier the prints, even in B/W were acceptable.
Now it looks like crap.
Amateur as i am i don't know alot about printing. till now i used to put in tthe paper press print and the dammed thing did the job. Now its a nightmare.

Can anyone tell me what an ICC profile is.

I print:
Color management: document
Color handling: photoshop manage colors.
Then i select the paper: SPR premium glossy.
Than in print settings: best photo and select the paper again and glossy optimizer on.

Thanks for helping me out.
digitaldog

Can anyone tell me what an ICC profile is.
I print:
Color management: document
Color handling: photoshop manage colors.

Right after setting Color Handling to Photoshop Manages Color, you have to select an ICC profile and rendering intent based on the paper. You should see this in the Photoshop Print dialog you discussed above.
Author “Color Management for Photographers" & "Photoshop CC Color Management" (pluralsight.com)
patricklavoie
could it be that the OP is double profiling the image by setting the same thing twice in both place?.. sounds like it... Can you turn OFF color management in Epson driver?

digitaldog

Can you turn OFF color management in Epson driver?

Yup, it's called No Color Adjustment. Has to be ON when using a profile.
Author “Color Management for Photographers" & "Photoshop CC Color Management" (pluralsight.com)
patricklavoie
As to be ON when you use a profile in the Epson driver.. but if you already color manage in Ps, you are doing 2 times.. It should be done in Ps OR in the driver.. not both place of course.
PVS
Andrew /Patrick, in the the "print setting" the color management is OFF.
In color handling: it says Photoshop manage colors and then choose the driver for premium glossy.
patricklavoie
then the only other problem i see, always the same 99% of the time.. you did automaticaly, or let Apple did a Epson Driver Update and that is always something you dotn want to append.

Now you have to reset you print setup, download the latest driver for you printer and your system (dotn worry if you dont see one for Lion, get the one before) then install it and go back to printer and add your printer.. problem should be solve IF you do that correctly .

There's no No Color Management option in Print. You can't use Convert to Profile then print that, you either have to select Printer or Application Manages Color now.
Author “Color Management for Photographers" & "Photoshop CC Color Management" (pluralsight.com)
patricklavoie
Andrew, whe are saying the same thing.. but im sure my explanation come across wrongly due to my english.. I know all you are saying.. All i say is, if you choose a profile in Ps, you shouldtn choose one in Epson also.. in the end, you shoudltn be double profiling your image.
But the OP problem now sound more like a Apple printer driver then a wrong profile selection
