Nude photography and arousal.

Recommended Posts

I think Edward Weston had an affinity for the female form. You see it in various ways including some of his signature shots such as the Nautilus. His choice of women was interesting, if I remember correctly, younger women, is anyone really surprised. Weston was a good looking man and certainly could charm others. His work is very sensual and it parallels his interests. I believe, he took what was inside of him, what he was passionate about, what he felt very deeply and made art and experienced life in that way. I would hope to do the same. K.

I am a doctor and a photographer. I have never done nude. However as a doctor (and I am a cardiologist as well as an Echocardiographer who deals with many female nudes) I can say that while examining or doing echocardiography the paramount thought and preoccupation is arriving at correct diagnosis and dealing with the person's problem in the best possible way. In other words, my left hemisphere of the brain is working.

Having said that, had I done nude photography I cannot say the same. While photographing, my right brain hemisphere works and I am totally involved in the subject emotionally. Arousal could be a strong possibility!

Apurva, you would be in serious breach of your professional codes of conduct had you been any different as a physician.

And maybe that's the difference. Professional photographers - those who rely on clients as a living - would likely behave more professionally (and with a professional mindset) than an amateur dabbling in nudes. Probably no different from amateurs playing doctor.

Well, Katie, if that were enough, there would sure be a lot more spectacularly good photographers in this world!

It always cracks me up how many responses a "nude" thread gets(I guess now I am a contributor to that!)...However, I am very interested in nude photography and I find myself drawn to it. It is the most fascinating to me. I have never taken nude photos although I would like to try at some point. I don't find myself getting aroused per se when looking at the photography but if I were in the same room as the model who's to say what would happen then.

I don't know why I started reading the word 'arousal' in the title of this thread pronouncing it as aerosol. What are they spraying nudes with in this thread? And then I remembered this was an old thread I participated in. Doh!

Something about the word 'nude' must do something to the male brain.

Its not so much the fact that people get aroused by taking nudes. Its that some seem shady about it. They deny that they are horny and are lacking of sex in their own lives and seek out anywhere just to get a glimpse of the human naked body. Why lie and say that the relationship between the two that being of photographer and nude model be strictly professional ? Fess up for some of us its about beauty and art and respect and for others just a means to get off... nobody is fooling anyone.
