helen_oster
Andy L. exactly! It's about competitive pricing, and also about the size of Adorama's potential customer base and our world-wide presence thanks to the Internet.

It's the same issue as when new models are released, and smaller retailers may have 2 or 3 in stock when Adorama is already heavily back-ordered.
Helen Oster
Adorama Camera Customer Service Ambassador
ShunCheung
A week ago (Nov 13), a friend of mine in Los Angeles wanted a D7000 for an up-coming trip early next year, and I told her to get it ASAP. She still managed to buy it for $1199 minus the $100 Nikon rebate for a final $1099 at a local store. And earlier in this thread (Nov 16) Amazon had them in stock briefly for $1099 (after rebate) as I pointed out that they had 15 left in stock. I checked back a couple of times within an hour and they were down to 3 in stock; those were quickly gone, of couse.

Adorama was selling it for $1199 a week ago and they are now up to $1299 (Nov 20): http://www.adorama.com/INKD7000.html
Interestingly, Amazon themselves have it again, but their price is up to $1199 now: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0042X9LC4/nmphotonet-20
I am sure those prices will continue to fluctuare frequently.

It should surprise no one that those stores that are selling it for $1349 and up will have it in stock for a while longer since people are not buying from them, until Amazon and Adorama finally run out. We do know that Nikon is currently not manufacturing any more D7000 so that the supply had stopped, for now. Hopefully Nikon can resume production in the next month or two.

Again, we have had warnings about supply problems since early October as production stopped on October 6. I kind of doubt that Nikon will ever be able to repair the original factory building in Thailand. Most likely production will resume from alternative facilities. If you haven't bought a D7000 yet, IMO you might as well wait another 2, 3 months until the supply resumes.

P.S. Related to that, I notice that hard drive supply is really a problem now and prices have gone thru the roof.
francis_t
They're back in Stock at B&H for 1196.95. Just put my order in before they run out again.
bob_s__n.e._mass_
Currently, they're out of stock everywhere that I've checked except at Cameta Camera, who are asking $1499.95 for one. Does anyone have an update since this thread died out in November, or any suggestion where to find one at a more reasonable price?
