The last Wednesday of 2011! Welcome, Nikon people, and what a good year's worth of weekly threads it's been. It seems fitting to find an image that captures the holiday season we're just wrapping up, or which looks back on the year, or forward to 2012. Sorry! I don't have one!

But I recorded, this week, an encounter between one of my German Shorthaired Pointers and Fate Itself. I'll let her moment of temptation and stoic display of intense restraint - which so characterizes her breed - stand as my inspiration. If she can resist that ham, perhaps I too can boldly face 2012's upcoming challenges and rewards with my eyes wide open. Good dog! And a prosperous, good New Year to all of you. Share one more photo this year, and we'll reconvene in 2012. Thanks again for such an engaging and inspiring 2011 - this is a great group of people.

00Zn1m-428167584.jpg.bc0d210ffd5cb2cecf588298082fe973.jpg

Happy Wednesday and Holidays everyone! I thought I would revisit a 2011 major event to close out the year.

Here's another shot of the two carp that ventured through some murky flood water and sat under a tree right after hurricane Irene passed by. Nikon D200 50mm AF-D f5.6 with some avante-garde PS work to see the fish.

00Zn2Q-428179584.jpg.00342be26160d648e99c853d912d9f95.jpg

Over Christmas, we went back to La Jolla, California (near San Diego) to photograph brown pelicans for the first time in 3 years. (Previously we were there in 2007 and 2008, also around Christmas.) This time we were there for just one day but it was productive.

This is a pelican landing. Nikon D7000 with the 300mm/f2.8 AF-S @ f4. 1/1600 sec, and ISO 200.

00Zn30-428191684.jpg.d534c92630049083605597122cd16fb9.jpg

This alligator turtle was trapped, and frozen solid, in a pond near my house. Alligator turtles are among the largest freshwater turtles in the world and commonly found here in Kansas. This guy was about 40 inches long from nose to tail.

Happy New Year to all!

00Zn4B-428215684.jpg.d9b2e5222ec4edb29609998845d1c507.jpg
