Nikon Wednesday 2011: #26

Hi everyone, I'm here to share one of my "photos on the go" while on vacation. My daughter & I had a rather uncomfortable trip to Europe in May. Layovers which were a bit demanding. ;-) We ended up with a layover in Amsterdam for 8 1/2 hrs & we finally managed to take the train into Amsterdam & eat a nice lunch & walk about a little. But we decided to take one of the tourist boats which traffic the canals in Amsterdam. There's a lot of them & we just grabbed the first we fell upon. Fell upon is most correct as Andrea fell asleep during the ride & I decided to pull in the D700 when I felt like I was about to drop it. Yes, camera strap around my neck, but scary anyhow.... The houseboats are boats where people live year around. They come in many shapes, colors & sizes.
D700, 24-70 f/2.8, ISO 400, f/8 1/320sec. at 32mm

Morning all. Love the work posted so far.
Again I found myself wondering through my recent pics looking for something interesting and hopefully technically good when I realised that what makes a truly great photo is not just the technical aspects, but the emotive part. So easy to lose sight of sometimes.
From me is a not too technically great photo, but a truly meaningful one. My nephew can be quitee the poser when he wants, but I really battle to get a real smile. I managed to grab one last night while setting up to do some corporate headshots for his mom. Smiles like this are priceless.

00Yxp2-374197584.jpg.77ac8c24885da8f30ce0aec39692f756.jpg

We sojourned the Delaware River with the Upper Delaware Conservancy to help promote this valuable resource. The Delaware is the longest undammed river east of the Mississippi, flowing freely for 330 miles as it travels from New York state, through Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware to the Atlantic Ocean and provides drinking water to approximately 15 million people.

Happy Nikon Wednesday to everybody. With the Fourth of July celebrations upcoming this week in the USA, I wanted to share a winter image that might evoke a patriotic theme with the display of our national bird for the Fourth. Posted is an image of a wild bald eagle in Iowa as it takes flight. Falling from this mature eagle's talons is a trail of snowflakes ( I bet many of you still believe the myth that snow falls from clouds, but now you know the real source of falling snow) Nikon D300 80-400 VR lens handheld... Wishing all of you god shooting this week as well as a safe Fourth of July.

00YxqO-374233584.jpg.36195b040942e5c08b34b5122d6e0faf.jpg

Happy WedNEsdAy everyone.

Last weekend, we visited a butterfly and bird park here at the Costa Brava (Spain). Since I borrowed my only telelens to my wife in the same place more than a year ago, and it is still glued to her D50, I'm stuck with a maximum reach of 50mm... Luckily the free flying birds are quite used to being stalked with a camera close up in their face :-)

D90 with Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.

Truly wonderful photos again this Wednesday morning. I have to comment on Rich Johnson's photo of his dad on his 98th BD. He looks great Rich. Looks like a great time was had by all. Thanks for sharing that photo.
My shot this week is of a couple critters, maybe not from the deep, but maybe from "Deep in the heart of Texas". Some Texas Longhorns now residing 1 mile from my house in Ashland, Ohio.

00YxqV-374235584.jpg.6b7c3ecd5376459c0574484158d2613e.jpg
