Whatever happened to ...

I posted this elsewhere as a response to an earlier question, but later realized I posted it two full weeks after the last

comment. So I thought I would post it here in all seriousness...

Whatever happened to Rochester Institute of Technology? With its proximity to and support from Eastman Kodak, it

was once one of the premier schools for this profession. I just checked and they still offer programs in both fine art

photography and photojournalism, among many others. I'm just curious why it doesn't come up in discussions here

about "which school is best for me?" etc. Has this once fine institution slipped out of mainstream consciousness and

lost its former position as a leader?

Any academics or working pros wish to comment?

My experience is RIT is great for technical work but they're not particularly known for turning out artists. At one time RIT grads went to work for Kodak while SVA grads used Kodak. :-)
BTW noted photographer Minor White taught at RIT.
