Off-brand LP-E6 (7d, 60D & 5dII) batteries

<p>I'm shopping for a 7D. I've had great luck with cheap, eBay batteries on my 400D, and have no intention of paying Canon prices for Canon-brand batteries this time around. However, I do want the nicer chipped batteries due to the extra information that it provides to the camera. So what are your favorite brands of LP-E6 knock-offs? Which ones have given you problems? Here's the ones I know about so far:</p>

<p>I got mine from Adorama, and they work fine in my 7D. Not sure on the price, though.</p>

<p>I would only buy 3rd party batteries from SterlingTek.com. But that's just me.</p>

 

<p>I always prefer Canon OEM batteries, especially with the newer battery info that you get in the menu. Heck, you should just buy my 7D and extra Canon OEM batteries . :) I was going to post it for sale this week. I'll shoot you an email.</p>

<p>I have no experience with the newer batteries for my 7D , but I've had no problems with non-Canon batteries for my XTi. As far as I can tell, their performance is identical to the factory Canon batteries.</p>

<p>Mark, I agree with you regarding batteries for older models. However, the 7D, 5DII, and 60d use a special type of battery with a chip that provides extra info the camera and the Canon-brand charger. Most aftermarket batteries do not contain this chip, but some do. It's that latter group for which I'm shopping.</p>

<p>That is the battery I was talking about, but I've never had a problem with them either holding a charge or charging, I don't know if I got lucky or these people were unlucky.</p>

<p>Ben - if you get a Maxtek post and let us know how it works. I have only used the Canon batteries in my 5DII and 7D because the chipped copies were close on price ($40 vs $64). It will be interesting to see how the cheaper chipped copy behaves.</p>

<p>My sister bought an off-brand battery recently for a new 60d and it would not even take a charge. We both ended up getting canon batteries for $65 from B&H Photo.</p>

<p>don't know about the LP-E6 but I've used LP-E5 imitation "knock-offs" without any problems - Amazon & dealextreme</p>
