nir_dvorai
Dear friends,
I want to dissolves the Barry Thornton 2 bath developer. I have a question regarding to how to dissolves the powders.
I need to make 1 liter with Metol and Sodium Sulphite: Do I dissolves each powder and on time or the both of them together? What temperature the water (distiled) should be?
Same for the part B: Sodium Metaborate- What temperature the water should be?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge,
Niro.

jordan_w.
For Part A, dissolve a little bit of sodium sulfite (1-2 grams) first, then the metol, then the rest of the sodium sulfite. Having your water pre-heated to 30-35C will help (but let it cool to room temperature before using it).

For Part B, the temperature doesn't really matter, as sodium metaborate is quite soluble.

It's a great developer -- good luck!
john_stockdale2
Just to expand on what Jordan has said: metol will never dissolve if all the sodium sulphite has been dissolved in the water first. But the metol is protected from oxidation if a very tiny bit of the sodium sulphite is dissolved first.

So start by dissolving a tiny bit of sodium sulphite, then dissolve the metol, then when it has ALL dissolved, add the rest of the sodium sulphite.
nir_dvorai
Thanks Jordan and John.
Can you also help me with more questions:
1. Do I need to agitate the part B bath when using 120 roll?
2. Can you share your starting time for TRI-X400 and ACROS100 120 both at boxing speed (if you use them of course.)

Thank you again,
Niro.
john_stockdale2
I haven't used it.
There is some info at this web page:
http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Using-two-bath-developers-4637

I've seen some comments at APUG that a little agitation in bath B is needed to maintain evenness.

likeapolaroid
Hi.
I just tried to mix this developer and have solubility issues with both solutions.
I mixed metaborate 10% solution as Anchell's recipe, 9.5g Lye + 45.4g Borax in 1L water.
I mixed them last night and now there is a small amount of precipitate on the bottom of the container (PET bottle).
I mixed them at 50C and stirred for about 30 mins. I did not use distilled water but normal tap water with which I usually mix all of my chems.
Is this precipitate normal? Should I filter it?
Anyone any idea?
Thanks
