PlusX pan in 220: discontinued or not?

Recommended Posts

some time ago Kodak discontinued PXP220. After about a year and a half

they came back out with PX220. that was about a year ago. As far as I know

they are still producing PX220. but of course not PXP 220.

The good news is that they have always maintained TXP 220 and it is an

improved film from the days when it had strange tonality. I like it now.

I bought a few pro-paks of PX220 this morning at Unique Photo in Florham Park, NJ. They still have some left. I also bought a roll of PX402 (a 100 foot roll - 35mm) for only $24.95. That's a good price. I will experiment with the PX in 35mm size before I use my limited supply of PX or PXP 220.

Yesterday I sent an e-mail to Ilford to see if they might consider reintroducing 220 film. I know that making anything in small quantities is an expensive proposition. There is less paper in a 220 roll than in a 120 roll. If Ilford can manage to squeeze one of its regular films onto a 220 roll without resorting to a thinner base then maybe the possibility of Ilford 220 film is not so remote. If a master roll can be cut down to 120 it should be able to be cut down to 220.

I have heard that Ilford say that they don't make 220 film because their machine to make it is scrapped. I guess building a new machine would be too expensive just so they can serve a small market.

I wish Kodak would make T-Max in 220. Or Fuji Acros. Both companies can do it. I don't care about Plus-X or Tri-X at all.

It's Adorama: Is it size 120 or 220?

Read the description again:

"Kodak Plus-X Pan 125, PXP 120 Black & White Negative Film ISO 125, 220 Size, Pack of 5, USA"

PXP 120?! And, it's less than Unique's price of $32.75 for 120 size.

Like I said, this is Adorama, not B&H.
