mark_kodra
Im looking for a good color print film to take photos of cars outside in the sun and overcast. This summer I will be going to a few car shows with a Canon Rebel Ti, EF28-135 IS, and a 430EZ speedlite. Im looking to capture the many colors and depth of color on show cars. In the past with a point & shoot I would use Kodak Gold 100, they came out good, but were missing the depth of color. Thanks, Mark
scott_eaton
Fuji Reala and a decent lab.
harry_akiyoshi
Reala is good. You might want to overexpose it a little in overcast conditions.
phule
Scott or Andrew, Would there be any advantage to using a circular polarizer in outdoor shots of all those shiny cars?
scott_eaton
Personal choice really, but I find specular highlights on show cars adds dimension and shows off the form of the car better. Magazine editors like a smooth, seamless look to the car (usually accomplished with a polarizer), but I find that tends to make them look fake. chris haake
You might also want to try some Konica Impresa. Very smooth and extremely fine-grained. Not a film with lots of color saturation, but the color palette is very interesting and beautiful.
george2
... outside in the sun <i>and overcast</i><br> Gold 100 would be my choice for a reliable saturated film under these conditions.<p> IMO Reala is the best print film in its class, but it does not show its strengths in overcast weather. Of course a slight overexposure and a skilled printer will help a lot, but they are hard to find.
scott_eaton
Gold 100 might actually beat Reala in overcast conditions. The problem is that Gold 100 sucks when printed on Fuji paper and the colors get slaughtered. Pink turns purple, teal turns green, etc. Since so many labs are running Fuji materials, it's easier just to shoot Reala because it works with both Fuji and Kodak printing, and can't be beat under sunny skies. discpad
Shoot Fuji Velvia 50 or Kodak E100VS and scan: You'll need it to get the saturation of the paint used.
