david_holmes1
Hello, I'm new to the Minox forum. I must say that this is an erudite group! I have been using a 35GL for years in conjunction with Nikons and other 35mm equipment. Now, through the suggestion of Martin Tai and the good offices of Don Goldberg I am the proud owner of two better-than-new GTs. My wife and I are planning a trip to the UK in a few months, and I am very seriously considering taking only the GTs, a Metz 34-CS2 flash, and a pocket tripod/C-clamp. The trepidation is that until now I have been accustomed to the "convenience" of SLRs and interchangeable primes. I would appreciate any suggestions, reassurances, war-stories, etc. from any of you who have traveled this light. Of course, the issue is not the quality of the images that the Minoxes are capable of, it just seems to require a major shift in photographic thinking. Thanks! MTC Photography
David, if you bring two GTs, that is enough backup, good enough for most travel photos. Bring along some back up batteries for the GTs.
david_holmes1
Thanks, Martin, but don't you miss that 28mm F/2.8 Nikkor, or the 105...? What kinds of shots do you find yourself foregoing with your Minoxes? David
MTC Photography
David, In some occasion I found that I need a Minox with 19mm :)
david_holmes1
Martin, 19mm would be something, wouldn't it? Imagine interiors with 800 or faster film! :-) By the bye, thanks so much for the encouragement! If all you miss is a radical WA, I guess we'll much more than "muddle through!" pensacolaphoto
I once took with a Minox 35GT and a Rolleiflex SL35 with Zeiss lenses. When I picked up the prints from a lab in Germany, I could not believe my eyes how sharp the photos were (with Kodak Royal Paper). The photos taken with the tiny Minox were as sharp as those taken with the Zeiss lenses.
