I have a house full of refugees from New Orleans who have probably lost everything. Slamming anybody for posting about their losses right now is way out of line. I beleive we are all adult enough to handle a little off topic discussion right now without getting our panties in a wad.If not, well......

I have one that came with a rollei I bought some years ago. I have used it a couple times, and it works real well for head and shoulder size protraits. An 80mm zeiss lens for 35 can be pretty cool. All but impossible to do horizontal shots.

That would make a cool screen saver

Cool stuff. These cameras are a blast to shoot.I have a Speed, and I think these represent a high water mark of American engineering. They are the swiss army knife of cameras for sure.
-
Yes the helios is the lens I mean . Really, really, good lens. I also got one of the russian 35's (forget the name), and it also is real good. If you can live with simplicity these cameras are tough to beat.

I use mine fairly often. I have two, an e, and a 122 that came with a photosniper. I really like the e; auto nothing, plain viewfinder, simplicity at its best. Sort of the Dodge Dart of 35mm slr's. The 50 that came with the zenit is really the best 50 I own, only bested by the 45 on my contax g2. Really a surprise for a camera I paid $8 for.

For what it is worth- I have a newer black j12 in kiev mount, and an older silver ltm one. Both are quite sharp, but the black one flares more.

I did this in the past, no pano head, just used a protractor. It was something of pain to line the prints up in the darkroom.Tough to get equal density across several frames.
Could this not be done digitally somehow? I would think stitching images together digitally would be easier that in the darkoom?

David, cool sight, thanks for the info. Looks like better temp control than I have now would be in order.

Have any of you done any e6 at home? I have really been enjoying
shooting color slides lately in my bessa and rollei, but the thought
of some slides from the 4X5 speed has me lusting. Nobody around here
will proccess them. Resources, tips, ideas, where to look??

I would have never gotten rollei out of K4B. What's up with that?
-
Stupid question- what is a K4B?

I have to agree with Gene. Criticism should contain something specific, so as to be useful to the person seeking the criticism. I have been making photographs since childhood. Every now and again I get something I like. I really think my most useful accessory is the trash can.
That said, I rarely feel I have the knowledge to criticize what someone else does. If it is something concrete, like " try developng the negative a little more to improve the contrast", or something like that I may chime in, but beyond that I can't really tell someone what works for them or what doesn't.
As to the pictures posted here needing to follow the guidelines of being interesting and interesting imediatley, I'm not so sure I buy that. This board is for classic cameras, and while I much prefer seing nice photos (and there are lots here), the idea is to show what various old cameras are capable of.We should not limit ourselves to fine art work here I think. I love to see stuff from various lens/camera/film combos, as it gives me a data base for my own work.

I never got along with my mamiya tlr. I think it was a c330. I had a black 65, 80, 180 if I remember correctly. Anyway, I never thought the lenses were as good as my rollei, the camera was big and heavy, just never "felt" right to me. I sold it and kept using the rollei. With used mf prices being what they are, I can't help but think a used slr might not be a better solution if you think you really need interchangable lenses. If the store will let you try it out that would be the way to go.

I have owned and used a zorki 1, a zorki 3,zorki 4, zorki 5, fed 3, fed 2, and a couple kievs. Here is my take.
Of the ltm models the z3 and z4 had the biggest brightest viewfinders. My z 4 died, ( needs curtains) before i used it much, but it was big heavy and kind of klunky. The z-3 has the same finder but better ergonomics, but unreliable slow speeds. Looks very cool.
The only zorkis I have kept are the 3 and the 1. The one is a sweet little camera.Smooth, great ergonomics, very small. But I cut my eye teeth on screw mount leicas, so it feels very right ot me. The z-5 was very nice, but really no better than the 1. Easier to load.
As for the feds, I love the fed 2. Mine also needs new curtains, but a sweet little camera. Nice wide base rangefinder, easy to focus, good ergonomics. The fed 3 I really disliked. Not only is the rangefinder base shorter than the 2, but it is smaller and darker.Big camera.Never really felt right ot me.
Out of all this I have kept the z1, the z-3, the non working z4, the fed 2, and my kiev 111a. The Kiev I really like. Great old camera.
The big thing is to sure and get one that works. I would buy from Oleg, Cupog, or Fedka so you will be sure to get one that works correctly

A green filter may work better for the skin tones.

I love apx in rodinol in my rollei. I shoot it at an ei of 80, give it 12 minutes in rodinol 1:50 at 68. Agitate continous for first minute, 5 sec every 30 second therafter. These negatives print very well on #2 paper under a cold light head. With a condensor develpment would need to be some shorter.
I love the tonality and sharpness of this combo. Tried it in 35, but grain was too big for me.

Craig- don't mess with a take up spool. Instead, take a reloadable cassette and put it on the take up side, upside down like. Attach the end of the film to this cassette and just wind on cassette to cassette. No rewinding needed at end of roll. Much easier than spools that drop out.

Have you been in northern New Mexico much? From Santa Fe on north toward Chama is truely one of my favorite areas. I have only been in the fall and spring though. There is a reason that O'keefe and so many others were drawn there.

Reminds me of good times....

Craig you don't really expect us to believe that it is hot, in the desert, in July, do you?

I'll take the Watameter. E-mail sent

Mike, I am the proud owner of an epson 4990. The slides are dark, but it was very dark out when I shot them.... It does catch the scene, but underexposed none the less.
