I don't suppose you have any experience with the 24mm f2 ais? A friend is selling for the same price as the f2.8s seem to be going for but I've heard mixed reviews on the flare and distortion.

Well thank you very much for clearing that up! I guess I can focus on looking for a 35mm lens now

I'd rather have an Alfa

It's the ai lens with the blue f16 marking and that's all I could tell you ahah, I'm not very well up on Nikon lenses
-
So far so good! My only issue is I find it quite difficult to hold, I think I'm going to look for a grip for it. Other than that I'm really like it so far!

Thanks for all the replies! I had a om1n and hated it and the idea to get another A1 is a good thought however since I sold my FD lenses I wanted to try something now and was going to buy a Nikon f3hp however I actually ended up getting a Nikon fm3a a few days ago. I know it uses a needle meter which I specifically said I didn't want however in use I actually quite like it so far and the build quality is top notch! It came with a 50mm f1.4 ai lens which is ok but seems a bit wierd wide open so I might sell and grab the f2 as that seems sharper

Well it appears the Nikon f3 is the way to go then! The next question is what's the best 50mm and 35mm lenses?
-
Thanks for all the information! I was looking at a Nikon f3 already so I might just bite the bullet and give it a go! You never know if you like something till you try it as I found out with the olympus om1 and the minolta xd7 which both came highly recommended and I hated both

So my beloved canon A1 just broke and now I'm looking for a new camera. I'm looking for a slr with a digital readout in the view finder showing the aperture/ shutter speed as a LCD numbers like the canon A1 does and not a dial or needle. Any recommendations? Cheers

Was told by one camera shop that it was the start of lens separation and that it is a crack/stress fracure by another. Seems like the latter to me!
-
I have no idea what that is ahah but the lens has never been serviced or maintained. Would there be any way to clean it? Thanks
-
I've never noticed it before but it's internal, it looks like a scratch but inside .very strange indeed!

Dug out my 50mm f1.4 today and I was giving it a wipe down and notice this weird shape to one side, it doesnt really look like a crack and it's kinda hard to explain, any ideas? Thanks

Canon A1 light leak? New seals needed?

I gave it a quick try but the conditions weren't great so I'll make sure it's pitch black and give it time! Thank you for the advice and the history lesson! -
Canon A1 light leak? New seals needed?
bayfieldxcv replied to bayfieldxcv's topic in Beginner Questions
Thanks for the advice, I'll have a look at the negatives when I get home! The seals don't look great to be honest but not nearly as bad as I thought they would be given the age of the camera. I think I'll just have a go at the light seals myself and see if I can save some money ahah. -
Hello there, I recently purchased a canon A1 that looks like it has barely ever been touched however upon shooting a test roll I noticed there is a light leak in the centre of a few pictures and was wondering if anybody knows where it might coming from? I suspect it may be the hinge however I'm not sure. Also there is a slight shutter squeak which I can live with in terms or ssound but I was wondering if it will affect the images by slowing down the shutter speed maybe? The test roll seemed fine though so I'm not too worried. Any help would be much appreciated!
