1. It's been a while - things are slow here. Finally I was able to find an experienced camera repair guy and he fixed it for me. He said it was not the mirror rest but the mirror mount. He fixed and cleaned everything and it was not expensive either. Got my first roll back and sharpness is now where it is supposed to be. I also got a prism finder with metering in the meantime and I am happy with the results. I used my old Agfa flash on camera and it turned out wonderful, now looking for a wireless triggerset to use it off camera. I am thinking to get a wide angle lens for landscapes and a mild tele lens for portraits, can you recommend nice and sharp lenses? So far I have only the Mamiya Sekor C 80mm 2.8. Thanks to all.
 2. @Rodeo Joe Thanks for your fast response. It's an old M645, but the standard model, not the S. I guess this rules out the mirror brake. And the mirror rest on mine, a pin which is obviously spring-dampened looks alright. I can see the focussing screen clearly, so then diopters won't fix anything if I got that right? I have taken out the screen several times and adjusted it up and down, doesn't change anything. Got a lemon here maybe? Philipp
 3.
Hello!

I got this lovely Mamiya M645 with a waist level finder and the 80mm 2.8 Sekor Lens.
But I always get back focused results, photos with sharp area 5cm behind intended focus point on a distance of 1.5 meters on f/2.8. Sharp ears and blurry eyes. Since the camera is a a second hand purchase, I suspected mechanical troubles and had it checked twice, but two different local camera shops confirmed camera and lens are fine. And the one single shot my friend took, turned out to be the only sharp one in the whole bunch.
Thus I am suspecting my eyesight to be the culprit and here's my question:
If I see the matte screen sharp and clearly, which I do, can this still be the cause of wrong focus? What does a diopter do, just to let one see the focusing screen sharp, or adjust the actual focusing distance? Does a sharp seen picture on teh screen translate to a sharp photo as long camera and lens are fine?
I am slightly nearsighted with an even sightlier on-setting farsightedness due to my age, but the former is just like -0.25 or so. Interestingly I use diopter adjustments of -1.8 on my SLRs for comfort, but can absolutely deal without any correction. I also learned that the Mamiya comes with a -1.0 diopter magnification lens already in stock condition, I always use this magnifier to obtain focus. Would a -2.0 diopter fix my problem? I already fiddled with the matte screen level adjustment up and down without seeing any significant change of my resulting focal points.
I am now quite confused and not confident with the whole setup and don't like to invest further money here w/o understanding whats going on. Shop/Opticians consultation is out of question, they don't have any experts near where I live.

Thanks for any advice!
Philipp
