Hi Everyone, espcially those in the Boston area. I am currently way too busy to take a summer long, week long type of workshop or class. Are there any 2 Day workshops in the Boston area for LF shooters or a group that gets together on weekends to get out and shoot? Web searches are not pulling up much....

Much thanks!

Thanks for the input. Proofing with B&W makes good sense, sometimes I
over look the obvious when I am stuck on an idea.

Will the Velvia provide me with good latitude for shooting all day
from sunrise to set? I will also be making prints from these as well.

Thanks for the help.

Hello,
There are going to be a few layers to this question.

I am going to be shooting with Fuji Quickload films, outdoors, natural light, land- and seascape in a few weeks. Leaning towards Velvia unless anyone has a strong reasons to consider another Fuji emulsion, like the NPS???

Also, since I do not have extensive experience with color films in 4x5 I wanted to be able to check a proof to increase the likelihood of success. What Polaroid color instant film would be most helpful, using a 545 holder, in getting this proof?

Thanks!

If you take the time to explore Agfa's site they have some PDF files
on their chemistry that might be helpful. About 500ml(1+25 or 1+50)
will process 50 35mm or 120 films, do a little math and you can come
up with a good guess on how many pieces of sheet film, and it won't
hurt to under estimate. Besides, Rodinal is an inexpensive developer
if you question if it is exhausted, mix up another batch.

Hello All, I have been pondering increasing my knowledge and getting a more solid backround in photography. I live in the Boston area and have been looking at NESOP (www.nesop.com) as a point of obtaining this knowledge. They have a nice 2 year program. The luxary of going to school full-time is not an option. Any comments on NESOP or other similar programs would be great, advantages and disadvantages. I realize this post may not belong in this forum but LF is my prefered format.

Thanks for the help,
James

Hi Mark & Andy, I think I figured it out! Once I thought about it
plus your comments helped, thank you. Andy I do use the zone system
and my primary reason for getting the spot meter. DO you know
anywhere else to get this scale? Or my understanding is 1 full
change in EV is equal to 1 change in stop which means, that if I
meter and get an EV of 10 that is 18% gray or zone 5, then one EV up
or down is a change in zone? Is this a correct thought?

I also found this website which was helpful as well
http://spotmetering.com/pentaxsp/

Thank you again,
James

Hi Folks, I just picked up a Pentax Digital Spot Meter but w. no insturction booklet. Instead of just guessing, how do you convert the EV reading to a particular ASA then shutter and/or f. stop setting? Or can someone direct me to a pdf file or website?

Also, the archived info on meters was very helpful in making this decision. Thank you.

Thanks for the help so far!! What about any Agfa product for color
4x5 sheet film?

Hello all,
I shoot B/W large format 95% of the time, but will be going on a trip in early July where I will want to shoot some color. My question is specific to sunset photography. What films to do you suggest, filters, settings, etc do you suggest for this scene??

Much thanks,
JC

Hi Simon, Here is another positive yes for the Cadet. You get a
great package and I think its even on sale right now. If the budget
is a consideration, its a wonderful monorail for all the pluses
listed above, besides you want to dump your money into the lens you
put in front it that is what really matters.
Let us know what you end up doing! Good Luck! JC

Hi Armin,
If your goal is to have a light, portable tripod for backpacking or
other type of outing, the carbon's are great. Personally, I have not
been a fan of Slik for past quality reasons, but run the item through
a check list for quality solid extension locks and legs, adjustments
and the ability to hold the weight of your particular LF camera
stable. Bring your camera to the store and give it a whirl. You can
also increase the stability of just about any tripod by affixing a
hook to the bottom of the center post and hanging your backpack or
aother weight source from it. Hope this helps, good luck.
