1.
Mark thank you. I hadn't paid any attention to the camera as yet and your right it's a 60D.
I will stay with the collective advice and acquire a 24-105 L and use it on my T2i as I had excellent results with that combination earlier this year.
Don't really want to have to upgrade to a new body at the same time as a new lens.

 2.
I want to thank you all for the information and insight you have shared I very much appreciate your taking the time.
What I should mention is that my son bought a 6D that came with the EF-S 18-200 a couple of years ago. After using it for a while he seemed to just use his iPhone camera. This past summer he left the 6D and lens with me and told me to use them. I did take the lens to Europe early September and used it with my trusty T2i but not on aircraft photography that is far more demanding than sight seeing.
I have decide to start using the 6D and buy the EF-24-105.David your last paragraph was prophetic. Now where can I find the best price for a new first generation EF 24-105. Thanks again everyone. Ed
Ed

 3.
Would welcome advice as to which lens would best suit my needs for plane spotting. Have found my EF 70- 200 1:4 L 70 mm isn't wide enough to full frame the new large aircraft.
I do have the use of my sons EF-S 18-200 which I have used on non aircraft subjects with very good results but have also used a friends EF 24-105 on aircraft with excellent results.
Question is should I stay put with my son's borrowed lens or buy the current version of the EF 24-105?
I am hesitant to spring for the upgraded EF-105 ll based on it's being only marginally improved and with more weight, length and cost.
I welcome any and all comments.
Thanks.
