1.
I found out the exposure compensation wasn't set at 0
With the above settings, in Manual Mode, does that mean I have to adjust shutter and aperture?
Thanks

 2.
I had a go last night using the A and S modes last night, and adjusting ISO and either shutter speed or aperture, but I was struggling
The photos were coming out really dark, when I adjusted ISO to correct it, I was getting an error message that the subject was too bright

 3.
Many thanks for all the feedback
I am just starting out, and I do have lots to learn
As for tripods, I haven't yet used one, these shots were taken whilst I was steadying myself on a fence, and the second one I was resting the camera on some wood on the ground

 4.
Hi

I recently bought my first dslr, a Nikon D5300
I was taking some pics at weekend, using the kit lens and auto mode
They looked fine on the camera screen, and the 13" screen on my laptop, but when I looked on my PC they quality doesn't seem that good
I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong, or expecting too much, but they seem to lack definition and crispness
