1.
Thanks Joseph! I'll definitely keep that in mind. I actually just saw that lens at the local shop but once I saw the price I put it back down. But it sounds like my best bet is saving up for a little longer to get a quality lens.

 2.
Thank you everyone for your input and advice. I haven't even considered a lens in the 10-22mm range so thank for bringing that to my attention William. I will be doing some similar practice hikes to see if the longer range would be needed. I'll make my decision after. Thanks again everyone!

 3.
Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a canon 7D with the Canon 24-105mm lens and wanted to get a telephoto lens as well to compliment my current lens. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me or if a telephoto lens would even be necessary at all given the 105mm (168mm on a crop) focal length. I will be heading out on a 1 month backpacking trip and will be taking mostly landscape shots. I have read that the canon EFS 55-250mm is a great lens for the camera but am not sure if that would be too much overlap. The prices for that lens is very attractive. Any help would be much appreciated.
