1.
Thank you Tom for identifying the issue!
Just to update everyone, here's what the seller said when I informed him he sent me a mismatched back:
"Now I clearly understand the problem area, and the reason why many customers asks about serial numbers matching.

"Since it is a kind of defect, it is our responsibility to compensate somehow.

"Please give us time to find replacement film back or partial refund if we are unable to find proper one."
So, it's promising!

 2.
I really appreciate everyone helping out. I emptied a roll and then inspected as best I could with my limited Hasselblad knowledge the film insert. I did this before I saw your messages, Ellis and Edward, so have not yet checked off the items that you mention.
The rollers seemed flat and even, the film path/bed area was consistently even and springy (to my eye at least). There was, however, a weird line that was only visible at certain angles. It matches the area of my negatives that are being distorted, but it didn't feel raised or uneven with the rest of the film path. Attached are a few images of the line, made to the best of my ability.
I loaded another roll very deliberately, paying close attention to every detail to confirm that I absolutely got everything correct. I'll shoot it in the morning during a Chinese New Year celebration and then check for matching serial numbers and deeply inspect the rollers. Otherwise, I'm in contact with the seller (a Japanese camera store) and have asked if they have another A12 back they can send me as it really seems to be the source of the issue.
Thanks again.

 3.
Thanks so much for the replies and advice, guys. I'm finishing a roll today and then will check everything as mentioned above and get back here.

 4.
First time posting as I just came by a Hasselblad 500cm after always dreaming about owning one.
I've been putting it through its paces (got it on eBay) testing it out and though everything seems to be in great working order, I keep getting this distortion in a top strip of every single frame. I've used three different films, different developing labs and have triple confirmed that the distortion is also on the negatives (so it's not the software I'm using). Am I doing something wrong in my shooting technique? (I've never shot a MF or specifically a Hassy until this camera.) Or is this particular lens/camera no good? I have a week left before I'm out of the return window, so any ideas are extremely appreciated.
EDITED to add that I'm shooting on the Zeiss T* 80mm 2.8
