At first I thought the little girl had some horrible disease, but then I realized it was just some really bizarre PS work. I actually haven't decided whether I like it or not. First reaction was negative (or "detached" - I love that!), but I do think it's growing on me.

    Blue Leaf

This is a pretty amazing abstract. It really does work very well. The background colors and shapes set off the leaf shapes excellently.

I will be taking a vacation from photo.net for awhile. I've been selling a few of my pieces to people who actually like them, and need the time to do more of that.

    Keep up the good work.

  1. Well done, Dominique. The increased emphasis on shadow and the tone correction makes this one much more appealing, though I also like the original. I especially like the outdoors look that the shadows (and the tonal change) bring. This aint't no PeeCee we lookin at, kids. Makes me want to loose one of those wires and see what's underneath.

OK, this one puzzles me deeply. I have to really (and I mean really) strain to see anything sevenish about it; it's not very appealing aesthetically; and what on earth is up with the pattern that just kind of pervades the whole thing?!?!?
  2. This is a nice puzzle, as well as being a comment on our lives. It's a Mobius Strip, so the days will run forever. But also, the days never get seen backward, so it's not really film, but an opaque medium, printed on both sides. But it's a Mobius Strip, so there's only one side.

Very clever, very well done. I especially like the physical texture of the "film" representing grain. That's just exquisite.

I wish I could feel free to disagree - I do hate to go along with the crowd - but there it is: I don't get the take on the theme, I find the green off-putting, and the photo is too cluttered and lacking in clear subject. So why am I even commenting? I don't know. Shut up, Michael, and go home.

It's difficult for me to comment well on this picture, because it's a genre I really don't understand very much - photos of artwork without much else make me wonder what it is I'm supposed to be seeing, photographically.

Which is not to say I don't like photos of statues. It's just that for me to get a hold of it, there has to be something more.

  3. The subtle color and texture changes, both in greens and in yellows, are quite remarkable and pleasant. I also love how the hopper's color is matched by the spines of the cactus. The white board in the background is a little distracting, though I can understand how difficult it might be to avoid or remove it.
  4. There seems to be a problem with the smaller birds - they look all fuzzy.

Seriously, this is a well composed and very well exposed picture, but there is too much hidden that should be visible. Most especially it's difficult to pick out the form of the goose in the back. And we won't even discuss the chick that's "bringing up the rear".

The limits of Photoshop's (or rather my) ability to compensate for perspective distortion are evident here. Any attempt I made to improve the roof line and trim made the leftmost window lean downhill even more than it does. There's always more to learn, and I have not figured out how to get a curve out of a picture.

This is, indeed a marvelous find, just about perfectly composed. Though obviously not graffiti, it captures its essence, and so really does look like graffiti. The colors work together (or perhaps it would be better say fight one another) in a way that makes it work as an abstract. And then, of course there are the two superimposed adverts that are just so complementary.

This is one for the museum wall.

    damn bugs!

Am I the only one who sees this as an embroidery? It seems to be stained by something, possibly (by the title) the remains of a bug. I think it's quite funny, especially given the theme.

I think the composition would have been better if the camera was just a little further away, but since I don't know what lies just outside the frame, that might not have been possible. In any case it's a worthy addition to the portfolio.

The composition is almost wonderful. As was previously noticed, there's too much red in the lower right, and the scissors and thimble are too centered. A slight re-arrangement of the elements of this picture would make all the difference. One thing makes me very curious, though, and that's the large white border. I'm scratching my head wondering what that's all about.

And welcome back, Darrell. I hope you enjoyed your time away, and expect you to enliven this forum as you had before you left.

  5. I knew it would be rainy before I left (oh, the wonders of the Internet!), and in fact there was much less rain than I expected. There was just one day it really poured, and so I spent that day inside the Louvre looking at other people's art.

The problem with rain is that it is so often accompanied by wind, which makes it damned hard to keep the rain off the lens. But those raindrops on the UV filter add a little something, don't you think?
