1. Just to let you know i have re-installed Vuescan and everything is hunky dory again. Both colour and black and white negs are scanning perfectly again. Thanks for your input. :)
 2. Thanks for your help anyway wogears. To be honest the only thing that has changed over the past few days is when I upgraded to the latest version of Vuescan but I'm not even sure that is the problem. I'll have a go at re-installing tomorrow.
 3. Is it the 'Monitor Color Space' setting you mean? If so it is set to sRGB but I have never changed that so presumably it was set to that before this problem arose.
 4. This an example of before and after colour correction. The top image is how it looks with the green cast after scanning from Vuescan and the bottom one is simply corrected by one click using Paint Shop Pro's automatic colour balance option.
 5. Yes I do. I tend to use an old version of Paint Shop Pro for negative scans as I find it easier and quicker to work with than PS (the latter I tend to just use for my digital pics). The strange thing is , as Vuescan is carrying out the proper scan and the image is displayed on the right side of the screen, the colours look fine. The green cast only appears when I select the save option. I'll try to get screen grabs of this if I can.
 6. I do quite a lot of slide and negative scanning using a Nikon Coolscan 4000ED and Vuescan software. A problem has arisen in the past couple of days in that both the preview scan and the final scan are blighted by a green colour cast which is evident even on black and white scans. (see attached screenshot). The cast on colour scans can be removed easily enough in Photoshop or Paintshop Pro, although it is a step that shouldn't be required, but removing it from black and white scans is proving more difficult without the overall quality of the scan being drastically reduced. I honestly do not know if it is the scanner or the software which is at fault as I am using the latest version of Vuescan. Unfortunately I can't try Nikon Scan software as a comparison as I am running Windows 10 which doesn't support Nikon Scan. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be causing the problem ?
 7.
Steven Clark - I have checked the options in the 'Prefs' tab but I don't have one relating to Button Action. Maybe it isn't part of the version I'm using (v.8.6).
Autosave option is set to 'Scan' - this means that when the scan is complete is saves a version of that scan to a generic filename and opens up my photo editor software so that I can process the scan further. This is the trigger I want but, as an experiment, I set the Autosave option to 'Preview' to see what happened but when this is selected, once the scan is complete it doesn't save it and doesn't open the editing software - in effect the result of the scan is lost, so that is no use.

 8.
Steven Clark - the Auto Scan setting (on the Input tab) is set to 'None'. I presume that you mean do I have a keyboard button assigned? The answer to that is No - I wouldn't even know how to do that.

Les Berkley - Batch Scanning setting is set to 'Off'.

The thing is it cannot be as simple as a setting as (a) I have never made any changes to any of the settings and (b) if it was an incorrect setting the problem would be apparent on every scan I did. That isn't the case as it is intermittent and comes and goes randomly.

 9.
Peter Carter - I only have the standard edition so upgrades were only free for a year. Not sure I can justify paying the extra for the pro edition as I don't really have a use for the extra features it provides (well, apart from upgrades for life).

Mendel Leisk - by Scan-To-Preview do you meant the 'Auto Scan' option on the Input tab? If so, it is set to 'None'.

 10.
I am using Vusecan v8.6.66 with a Nikon Coolscan 4000ED film scanner to digitise my large negative collection.

The software has started displaying the following annoying habit:

I carry out a preview scan of the negative

Before I have a chance to adjust the crop, or any other settings, Vusecan immediately starts the full scan on its own without me clicking on the Scan button

I have to press the Abort button to stop the scan and sometimes this will return me to the Preview screen where the image is and I can make my cropping adjustments etc. but other times the preview screen is blank and I have to carry out the Preview process all over again

This problem doesn't happen on every single negative but tends to be random and generally after it does it the first time it will do so on the following few scans until I eject that strip of negatives and insert another one. This seems to re-set things again for a few scans until the anomaly shows up again.

It is an irritation more than anything but if any other user has come across this and there is a fix for it I would be grateful to hear about it.
I posed this question directly to Hamrick support but their response was to simply exit the software and go back in again. Admittedly this works for the next few scans but the problem shows up again eventually.
