1.
Sorry for being late to this discussion.
I've never stopped using my 1Ds (original, or classic, as you prefer, with the latest firmware).
It takes 32 GB CF Cards without any problem and so I can shot a lot (yes, a lot!) of pictures with these cards. You can use any CF Card on it, only make sure it is formatted on the FAT32 file system. I have CF cards from 32 MB to 64 GB, and I have never had any problem with any card on this camera.
Only recommendation: do not format any card larger than 8 GB on camera, because it will make a single 8 GB partition on the card, leaving unused the remaining space.
But there is no problem nor the card is affected in any way. After using it, and AFTER copying all the images to a computer, then you simply delete that partition and create a new 32 GB FAT32 partition, recovering the full capacity of the card. If you do this on a Mac (with the Disc Utility) it will be ready in less than a minute.
Please remember that formatting or creating new partitions causes all the information on the card to be lost, so make sure that you have all your valuable pictures in your computer before making changes on the card.
Best regards and happy shooting!
