  1. Phil Askey founded DPReview in London, UK back in 1998, and he sold that to Amazon in 2007. In 2010 Amazon relocated DPReview from London to Seattle where Amazon's headquarter is. See this Wikipedia article: Digital Photography Review - Wikipedia

If you clink on any purchase links on DPReview's own content, it will lead to Amazon. (Obviously people can post other links to their forums.) And you will not find advertisements from Adorama, B&H, etc. on DPReview. Obviously DPReview still has a lot of good information (as well as bad information on their forums), but to me, DPReview is more like a marketing arm for Amazon.

By the same token, Nikon USA is loaning me equipment for review to promote their products. While I don't get paid by Nikon, I do try to maintain a good relationship with them. Meanwhile, I also would like to maintain a good reputation and provide fair comments on Nikon products.

This whole Amazon thing explains a lot now. Thanks Shun. I have never really paid too much stock in their reviews. In the beginning though I thought they were great.

But I thought they lost their way a long time ago.

  2. ''What a way for Nikon to shoot themselves in the foot: should pre-order a D7500 for $1250 now and wait until summer to take delivery or should I go for a proven D750 for $1500 now (and get a free MB-D16 thrown in)? Need a lens with that? How about $1750 for a D7500/18-140 combo vs $2K for a D750/24-120? A $250 difference to go FX - what's there to think about?''

Yep, exactly my thought when I ordered a D-750 for my wife today. What a great deal on that body especially with the grip, memory card, bag U.S. warranty (Mine is gray market)

  3. I have really enjoyed this thread and like many, I am torn slightly. My one and only wish in regards to the D7200 has been that it had group focusing. For street photography, I use that 99% of the time. I had often wished Nikon would have put it in the D7200 with a firmware upgrade, but it never came. So when it came in the D7500, I said to myself. I will be purchasing one as soon as it becomes available. The lighter weight is also a plus. The focus mechanism is the most important thing to me in a camera. This is why I use Nikon. So here is I what decided to do after much reading and pondering. It does bother me that there will be no grip for it as I find the grip to be very useful as I have rather large hands and the balance is better with it.

First off, let me start with this.

    I do have all three D7XXX bodies as well as a D5, D500, D750 and D800E

If you look through my Flicker or blog space, it becomes obvious which cameras are my favorite as I leave all the EXIF data.

When shooting full frame, I will reach for my D750 90% of the time. The weight and size is perfect for me. The focus is blazing fast and the low light high ISO performance is killer great. (Though not in a league with the D5 or D500, nothing is).

When shooting with a crop body, I do reach for my D7200 about 60-70% of the time. Auto focus speed is about the same as the D750 and ISO performance is great. About a full stop less than the D750. In fact, the only time I really use the D500 is when I will be going late into the night and need the low light performance of this beast.

But I will say this. The sensor in the D7200 in my opinion is better than the sensor in the D500. The colors are more vibrant, ISO I could swear is also better. (I am a jpeg shooter) The lighter weight is great. So in my view, the only thing I would be gaining in the D7500 would be a little quicker auto focus and group focusing. I would be loosing my grip and jpegs from the sensor. So I decided to pass on it. If I needed the body or my D7200 dies, Then I would rather buy me another D750. I can buy another gray market D750 for a couple of hundred dollars more and have a much better camera.

So I will be passing on the D7500. I will wait for the D750 upgrade if it ever comes, but truth be told. How do you even improve really on what is out there.

  4. Thank folks I really appreciate the responses. As of today, I am leaning to the X-T2 and 23F/1.4

My understanding is that the lens on the X100F is the same as the X100 (which I did own for a little while) and as such, it is soft wide open. I will confess that I am spoiled by Nikon lenses wide open and it would bug me not to be able to get similar results from the Fuji. I love low light shooting so Lens aperture is important to me. But having said that, I am not sure the fuji can even focus in the dark. The reviews seem to indicate they struggle in low light. Where the Nikon is king. So after writing this response, I will be getting the X-T2. Thanks for the advise folks.

  5. Greetings folks,

I never thought I would be asking this type of question, but here it goes. I can't decide between these two cameras. What I am after is sheer performance, mostly auto focus speed. I have read and viewed videos and truly I can't decide. I love street photography and that will be my main use of this. The money difference is significant and I am wondering if it is worth the difference. I do use quite a bit of my Nikon lenses at 1.4 hence my choice of lens. Having said that, F/2.0 will work for me as well. I am leaning to the X-T2 but feel I might regret not getting the X100F. Confused old bird here. What would you choose and why?
