1.
So did some more test. I am pretty sure I need to take the lens and camera in to Canon, have them check it out. Both are still under warranty. Here are some of the test I shot, mostly without a lens hood. The lens hood did help a bit, but still had slight flaring. Somehow the light is hitting and causing gnarly flares. At the 70mm its at it's worst. Btw, yes I know the lens is dirty. Also added one of the lens itself and the flare.

 2.
Thanks guys. Yeah I'm gonna try to do some more test this week, busy week, but I'll try to recreate the condition. The strange thing is the sun is usually pretty high in the sky when this happens too. I do believe the petal-shaped hood might be my issue, since in portrait orientation, it's not really covering much. It also might be the hood itself got warped somehow or is not properly on so it's letting light leak through. Very annoying but hopefully I'll figure it out.

 3.
Yeah I posted before, found out it was a flare and still having issues. Not a sensor issue, checked the sensor. Only shows up when shooting outdoor daytime, all my night stuff or indoor stuff, no flare.

 4.
Hi. So I'm having issues with getting some pretty bad lens flare. Really strange issue
Shooting Canon 5D Mk. III w/ a Canon 24-70mm L series lens. I have a lens hood that came with the lens attached. When I shoot in landscape orientation, no issues. Yet when I sometimes shoot in portrait orientation, somehow the sun is hitting the lens giving me a bad flare. And this is at the 70mm end of the lens. No sun is in the shot, but somehow still getting crazy lens flare. And this isn't just one location but multiple locations throughout the day. Only when in complete overhead shade is there no flare.
I attached some examples.
I'm thinking, somehow, since the lens hood doesn't cover much when you shoot portrait orientation, that the sun is somehow shining from above and hitting the very bottom of the lens at an angle, causing this crazy flare. I can sometimes use my hand to block the flare as best I could, but the results are mixed. Obviously that's not an ideal solution. Plus I don't remember having these issues when I was shooting before without a lens hood.
Anyways, any ideas of what might be wrong. Is there something maybe wrong with the lens itself that is causing strange internal flare issues? Is the lens hood itself causing the flare somehow? Love to hear your theories and thoughts.

 5.
Yeah, I didn't think it was a flair at first since we were shooting in the shade of a building but realized this happened later in the day, when the sun was up above, some shots the model was in the shade but I was in the sun, and possibly the filter wasn't on correctly, so it was hitting it at an angle, causing this aberration. Will be shooting in the future so we will see if this is a one time thing or a consistent issue.

 6.
Did some tests this morning, trying to recreate the conditions I shot in yesterday. Experimented a little, varied the shutter speed, exposure, etc. No issues. Hmmm. Will keep an eye on it.

 7.
Hey guys. Thanks for the responses. Let me give you a little more information. Everything was shot at a 2.8. Did not see the spot when I shot in landscape orientation, only when I shot portrait orientation. Shutter varies from picture to picture, sometime it would show up when I shot 1/640, 1/320, 1/250, 1/200 and sometimes at that same shutter speed, no spot. I don't think it is shutter failure, camera is pretty new and I take care of it. But who knows. As for filters, there was a UV filter on the lens, possibly it wasn't screwed on properly, and light leaked through? Just so strange it is always in the same bottom left corner.

 8.
Hey, I have a bit of an issue, hopefully you guys can help me out.
I was shooting a model today with my Canon 5D Mk. III and Canon 24-70mm L series lens. Afterwards uploaded all the pictures. I'd say 85% are solid, but pictures near the end of the day had a strange flare like spot near the bottom left of the pictures, ruined a few good shots. I thought it was a flare at first, but it was on several pictures taken at different locations, and we were shooting in the shade. Only showed up when I was shooting portrait style, not when I shot landscape style. I cleaned the lens when I got home, front and back element, cleaned the inside of the camera, and did a sensor clean on the camera itself. I did a few test shots in my apartment in the evening, didn't notice anything, but will try to do more test tomorrow morning. Anyways, attached a few pictures. Any idea of what this could be? Smudge on the lens? Internal reflection of some sort? Something on the sensor? Would love a little help, thanks.
