Why? PS CS3 handles the files just fine - with NO work! Try it and be amazed!
-
I have a 3800. I would suggest repeated cleaning. You might be surprised. After 5-8 cleanings the nozzles often clean up. Now it they are completly blocked - like no ink - you have a very serious problem. Packaging the 3800 for shipping will be a major PAIN. Then there is the shipping cost. Have you called Epson?
Using old expired inks can cause more grief that non-Epson inks. MANY stores sell these at discount rates.
I leave my Epson on all the time. When the computer is fired up, it does its thing. Almost no clogging problems. Good idea? I don't know - but it works.

You bet. Reset PS to its default settings. When you click on the program to load it, very QUICKLY hold down the Control - Alt - Shift keys together (all 3 at the same time). If you do it quick enough PS will give you an option. Select yes.
This resets the defaults and clears up 99% of problems like this.

How clogged? Completly? Any lights blinking?

Keeping it simple, Matt.
In PS CS3, use Image - Adjust - Black and White. Now select a filter for the effect you want - or no filter. Instant preview. Quick - as in a second or two. These will still be in RGB mode although b&w. You can change modes to b&w if you choose. Or - staying in RGB mode, simply apply a gentle S curve. Image - Adjust - Curves.

Samsung SyncMaster series. Great bargain and excellent! Pick a size you can afford.
-
I prefer, and use Eye-One 2. Love it. Be very careful when calibrating an LCD - and laptops are next to impossible.
-
Using "Save for web and devices" will automatically use sRGB as the new color space. Saving the file as a jpg in other (or older) software might well change things a little.
-
Steven,
All jpgs are not created equal. They are many varieties. Confusing, I know.
If you are using PS CS3, make sure you use "save for web and devices" as JPG.
Just making a guess.

Gosh, you need some real help. I make absolutely TACK sharp 17" x 25" prints from my D700. I also make very sharp 2' x 3' prints. Very sharp at most ant viewing distance over 12". Obviously (to me) you are doing something (or many things) very wrong. Please feel free to e-mail me. Perhaps with a few e-mails back and forth I can help you. Yesterday I made a 5' high vertical print from my D200. Looked great from 2' away. My MF equipment could never do this. If you like, I can uprez and send you the file. It is HUGE.

Thank you, Ray!

Thank you, Josh. That was my only real point - and perhaps I should have e-mailed you. Please accept my apologies. Generally, in the past, my e-mails were pretty much ignored. Honest. (not by you)
The system is obviously "broken" as you put it. As for personal attention, I could give a rats ass. I own a radio station, two other businesses, and am constantly trying to AVOID attention - as it almost always involves work. :^) I linger in the shadows most of the time - except for photography - my passion.

Juergen
Me either! That was the point.
-
Josh. I guess this is my "thank you". You replied, "Throwing photo.net under the bus for something that I knew nothing about is unfair and more than a little silly." I was being "silly"? How callous. I have been supporting photo.net long before you came along. And will continue to do so, God willing.
I guess, then, I should say, "You're welcome!". I never faulted YOU or photo.net. Simply the fact that there was presently no way of even thanking donors, right? Get it? As for 1-2 months ago and your correction that I missed by 4 days, would it have mattered? In any way?
-
$100 wasn't that big a deal - honest - but of the 4 memberships I paid for only ONE bothered to thank me - well, sort of.
Never got a direst e-mail. That was 1-2 months ago. I guess I won't be doing that for awhile. I wonder why I never even got
any sort of acknowledgment from photo.net? Nothing. I mean, a simple receipt with a 2 word "thank you" would have been
great!
I guess the system isn't set up for "thank you". Something to think about, my friends. I joined photo.net a million years ago
because it was set up to help struggling photographers - and I thought I could help.

As mentioned above. Use the Adobe DNG converter - it's totally FREE! Then use your CS2 as usual.
-
Your welcome, Dave! Thank you for responding. I wonder what happened to the other three? Kinda makes me feel stupid. Oh well. Been there before. It matter not to me as my prosperity and JOY comes from a different source.

Done. These 4 now have a free subscription. Enjoy:

Patrick,
Although I have no need to join, having been here forever (like from close to the beginning) - and donated my time forever (it seems like), let me add another FOUR subscriptions. Simply let me know who they are and I will pay immediately. Nice gesture! Kindness is contagious. Take a bow, my friend. My paypal awaits.

I use Epson 3800 and make exhibition quality 17 x 25" B&W prints. Of course, there is a learning curve.

Oleg, try my simple tutorial. http://dustylens.com/luminosity_mask.htm
