1.
I just recently picked up a Nikon F801s 35mm SLR with a 50mm f1.8D lens to get into film photography. (Lens is brand new, body is used).
I'm very new to shooting this format, but have had some experience with DSLRs.
I'm not sure whether I'm just missing something or if my camera is broken.

First time I went to take a photo I kept getting "lo" (indicating underexposure). This was using ISO 400 film and was indoors. So I thought, well okay, maybe it is just too dark, I'll go outside. I went right into the sun, switched on Aperture Priority, and even with my aperture at f1.8, it still wouldn't select a reasonable shutter speed, just kept saying "lo". It literally doesn't matter what I do or what mode I choose. If I put it in manual and use the sunny 16 rule outside in the sun the electric analogue display indicates the exposure below -2EV. I just pointed the camera outside my window just then using an aperture of f1.8, shutter speed 30, and it still says the shot is underexposed! So something is obviously wrong.

I've checked the batteries. All new and at least 3/4 full still. Doesn't appear to be any corrosion in the battery chamber.

Any ideas?
