10.
Thank you Paul. I agree. Here is the link to some of the photos. Please keep in mind when viewing, that I am new at this and this was also the first time working with the lens I used which took me awhile to figure out the best distance from the subject. I ended up with quite a few blurry pics. Live and learn. I also played with Photoshop a bit, some good, some bad. Thank you for your thoughts. Oh and yes Paul, you were correct on the influence. Only mine was a sad little palm plant (only had one palm branch), an old screen, and lighting from a skylight in someones indoor pool house. LOL I was being resourceful. I agree about the screen and pretty much everything you said. We are going to re-shoot that dress on Friday in an old fashioned downtown alleyway, minus the plant. :-) I can handle good criticism. I welcome it.
http://www.photo.net/photodb/slideshow?folder_id=1076762

 11.
I took these today, my first time using a model. I discovered a few things on my own. It can be difficult to find the right pose and that it is very important to be specific about how you want the model to turn, look, express, sit, and just everything in general. I would love to have everyone's thoughts on what I did wrong, right, and how I might have posed her differently. I am having one more session with her on Friday and any suggestions are welcome.

 18.
Hello to all from South Georgia US. I love taking pictures and am learning a great deal from more experienced members here at photo.net. I bought an entry level Nikon D3200 and am currently working with older manual lenses to help me understand the camera and the best ways to capture the images I want. I am building my portfolio and taking a lot of free photos for families. I have found that family photography is really not as easy as I had thought.
I look forward to reading here and viewing the photographs others have taken. There are so many here with great talent for the lens. I have attached one of my experimental family photos.
Great to read,
Patricia

 19.
Let's try the image again. Well at least it's attached. This is why I prefer manual over auto-focus. This still needs improvement. I have a long way to go. I can't wait to post the pictures of the tattoo pictures. Funny, even though I am doing it free for portfolio, I am nervous! Thanks so much guys.

 20.
The photo you have here is the mood I want to capture. I love the blues. The girl who has volunteered to do the makeup in exchange for pictures of her clothing designs creates very similar outfits as the one you have shown here, sort of goth steampunk. I want to stay away from the goth in this shoot however but I like the blue mood. I have taken your advice on the settings, the 35-135 is a manual. I have been told to just use the auto focus lenses because it is easier, but I have found that I get better pictures without it, especially candids and detailed photos. I also found that tripods don't work well for me. I am not sure of this makes sense but the image I am focused on using the tripod once taken, just isn't me and my eye. The one of the man and the baby is me trying to establish depth with that lens. The one below is me getting better at it. :-) Wow, thank you.

 21.
Thank you, what excellent advice. I love the composition from Paul, and yes the tats will be more prominent. I am shooting the pictures in the courtyard of a 19th century mansion, in front of the chapel and fountain. I have a attached a pic of the location, please excuse the photo, it is one of my experiments. But you can get a good idea of where I will be shooting. I shot this picture with the 18-55. The baby turned his head before the auto-focus could calibrate, really upset my cornflakes. LOL. I thought I might have them sitting singularly and casually sitting on the edge of the little fountain and on the steps of the chapel, also, the bench where the man and baby are sitting. I had to crop this photo, the mother was a bomber. LOL

 22.
I am experimenting with limited equipment and lenses. I have a kit 18-55 mm G, a 35-135 mm and a 50mm f/1.8 both manual focus lenses, and I am shooting on a intro D3200 Nikon. I have all kinds of lighting, most of which I do not know how to use (it belonged to my father).
I have five evening gowns that models will be wearing outside (hopefully i can catch a cloudy day). All of the models have tattoos which are the focus of the photos. I chose the evening gowns because they provide good visual access to the tattooed regions (back, legs, arms) and they can be had extremely cheap. I am designing a tattoo book for an artist and these will be part of the book along with his sketches.
Of the three lenses which one would work best? I do not like the 18-55, I haven't figured out what to shoot with it and due to it being an AF_S DX G lense, I am unable to get the shots I want due to the sluggishness in the AF mode. I am using flash.
Any advice appreciated.

 23.
This picture seems unorganized to me. Someone mentioned the photo bombing mannequin. Ikes! The whole composition seems uncomfortable. I agree crop her in tight and lose the bomber!

 24.
I bought mine at a Pawn shop for $10.00. Its heavy but very stable. It is Sun Pac? The only thing I've noticed is that it has a quick disengage and being new at tripods, I almost lost my camera and lens to a concrete floor. Fortunately I was able to grab it in time. Be careful with these release triggers regardless of brand or price.
