I developed a problem on a recent trip with the autofocus not working, the lens would not focus nor would it allow the shutter to release. I tried my 50-300mm zoom and it worked fine. So, I cleaned the contact with a little isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cross. Now it will work for 3 or 4 shots, then freeze. On manual mode, the focus moves freely.

I actually had the same problem last year and spent $200 sending to Canon for repairs. I am trying to avoid spending the money again. Any thoughts?
