1. Not what you hope to hear, I'm sure, but it sounds like the shutter needs to be cleaned to operate within a useable range.

Those cameras are indeed charming, however a professional cleaning will cost you much more than you will recoup if you plan to sell it at some point.

I can't say on your behalf if it is worth it or not, but unless it has sentimental value for you to to have it in an operational state, or you have the ability to repair it yourself, I would probably consider it a decorative item.

Prontor repair manuals are floating around the internet if you wish to go that route.

Thank you very much for replying Niels

I feared the worst - the blades do indeed look a little 'gummy' so that must be why they are only operating at at 2 secs.

Oh well - it is a lovely thing to look at, so either I only use it for longer exposures or pop it on the shelf along with my other temperamental vintage cameras!

  2. Hi there I have a Voitlander Perkeo 1 with Prontor-S shutter

I have been testing its speeds and unfortunately the shutter only seems to operate at one speed - slow.... I calculate by looking at the blades open and close its about 2 seconds. This is a consistent time and not affected by the speed control dial. Anyone know what the problem might be? I love this little camera and would like to take it out for a spin.

    Thanks very much folks

    Steve

  3. Hi everyone hope you are all well at this time

I have an otherwise faithful NikkorW 210 5.6 which has decided to jam up its shutter and is now inoperable.

I wonder if there are any common repair tricks or tips to be learned to release the jam. The blades still revolve freely through the apertures but the release lever is stuck fast.

At the moment in lockdown here in the UK its difficult to get anything posted or repaired.

    Hopin you can help

    Stee.

  4. Hi there I would like to use a standard cable release on my Bronica ETRSI. I have read that switching the lens to T will allow the release to be used. However the shutter will remain open until the lens is switched back to A

I am using a tripod and wish to use the release to fire off the shutter and close it at all speeds - not necessarily for speeds slower than 8 secs or on Bulb but faster speeds such as 1/250

I cannot seem to make this work. Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Steve

  5.
Hi there - I have a range of Pentax lenses that I wish to use with my Canon 5D MK 11 particularly my 10-20mm super wide. Before I invest in a number I wonder if there are any brands of lens adaptors that people have tried and liked? I am not necessarily too fussy about shooting with all modes available but it would be a bonus if possible. Also any general advice on adaptors and their use would be appreciated as I have never tried them. I am based in the UK.
Many thanks Steve

  6.
Hi there and thanks for your advice. I have not used the mirror lock up function for months and the camera has been working fine since then. I have removed the lens and can clearly see that the mirror is in the down position, however the problem seems to be the shutter curtain which is stuck and obstructing the sensor. This must be why the camera wont fire. Anybody know of a workaround? Many thanks for your help, Steve

  7.
Hi There, My PenTax K5 has recently started to display a problem. When I press the shutter I only get a darkening of the image in the viewfinder (as if it were giving a DOF preview) but I cannot take a picture. This problem has never presented itself before. I have tried using two different lenses with the same results. Any ideas before I have to send it off to Pentax? Much appreciated, Steve
