I'm working on a series of tree/rock images in an area very close to
where I live. It is currently a World Biosphere Reserve area which is
endangered by proposed quarry activity nearby (ie, 1/4 mile away). I'm
curious if others have any luck with promoting images with such
connections to environmental causes.
Also, any comments on the image would be appreciated.

I'm struck by the control of the tones you have achieved here. You say you did quite a bit of processing of the image, so I wonder how far off the original exposure must have been.
I particularly like the gap between the lighter and darker forground trees, leading your eyes into the more distant brilliantly lit stand of trees.
Nicely done.

Great image, Dave. Sitting here early on a Sunday morning, the image is a visual mirror to my increasingly real caffeinated state.
My only thought....and just a thought....is if the idea is to show the saucer moving and leaving a wake, could the edge of the wake (black line) wrap around the left edge of the saucer? That would enhance the impression of the movement, I think.
Anyway....regardless of my small niggle, its a great shot and I relate to it!

Richard,
I see your dilema, now. The actual horizon was likely straight, but I made the assumption that the horizon followed the structures. Of course, as I see it, your initial image does have the lighthouse vertical.
I get caught up in this sometimes and have been known to use the transformation function in Photoshop to adjust these things a little when I'm unsure if the original image was really truthful or a result of the lens or perspective.
Regardless, it's quite a nice image and, as they say, 'well seen'.
Cheers,
Dave

Only quibble with this one (and I'm not normally worried too much about this) is that the horizon is slightly tipped. With this being a highly graphical image, the slight angle is realy noticeable.
Love the lead in with the lines and shadows, though.

Su,
Having been in Shanghai a number of times, I've never seen the air so clear. So, you have good luck with timing and the image is nicely exposed.
Shanghai always seems such a vertically oriented city (so much high rise construction) and this image would like to be cropped on the sides a little to emphasize that.
Nice!

A wonderful example of shooting with available darkness.
The blend of extreme sharp and soft is tremendously appealing.
