Thanks for the help. Think I didn't have it sitting properly in the frame. Seems to be staying put now.

Now if I could only get it perfectly clean...still seeing some specs as I look through the viewfinder (after blowing it pretty good). Oh well.

I replaced the focusing screen in my (new to me) FM2n, and after each picture, the bracket holding the screen drops down, and I have to push it back up. I think I've got it up good, and then it drops again. Do i need to fiddle with the little lock thing, or is it possible something else is up (screen not correct? focuses okay when the bracket is up).
thanks

I just picked up an FM2n and would like to get a new focusing screen. The posts I see discussing the screens are pretty dated. Where can I order on today? Open to recommendations on which ones to consider, as well.
Thanks?

Just getting back into film, and wondering about good source (inexpensive!). Most likely will shoot 100 and 400 speed.
While I'm at it, we're also getting a darkroom up. Construction (so to speak) is underway, and we found a decent enlarger at a good price on Craigslist. Where should I buy decent "every day" paper (probably 8x10 and 5x7), and what type should I look at. And what about sourcing the other stuff we'll need for the darkroom (supplies...chemicals, trays, tongs, etc.).
Thanks.

This is all very helpful, thanks. Is there someplace on the web where I might find some pictures/documents showing/describing how to do these things? Youtube?

Just pulled my grandfather's F out of a box, looked through the viewfinder, and it looks like someone sprinkled a bunch of dirt in there. What's the "do it yourself" way to clean it up and give it a whirl with some film?

While we're at it, how about ideas on a film camera off eBay? Not sure where my old Konica is. Feel free to link to
something interesting. 50mm lens should be ample to start with. Biased towards Nikon...what my grandfather and dad
shot.

Thanks again for all the replies.
Suggestions on an inexpensive fan setup? Guessing I'll want to bring clean air in, send the fumes out.
How about an enlarger? I see this: http://charlottesville.craigslist.org/art/3510831561.html
located near me. Beseler 23CII XL. Asking $150. I'd have no idea how to evaluate the enlarger, or the price. Any suggestions?

Years ago I did some darkroom work, and now my 18 year old daughter has expressed interest. It won't be long before she's off to college, so I'm hoping to get up and running quickly. I'd also like to do this relatively cheaply, and would love some advice.
When we built our house we roughed in a bathroom in a large basement utility room. The only framing is to handle the plumbing rough in. I'm thinking of installing a basic utility sink (maybe 22"x25") and some basic work surfaces in the space (which measures about 10.5' x 4.5'). A utility sink would be useful for other purposes, but I'm wondering if I'll wish I had installed a larger sink (perhaps a double utility sink). Sink thoughts?
I'd prefer to not go through the time and expense of hanging drywall, and figure that it would work to create some sort of "tent" using black out fabric, or other material. Thoughts on this? Should I just drywall it and be done?
What about ventilation? Cut holes in fabric to handle it? I presume I'll want to vent to the outside, and not just the utility room. What are some inexpensive, basic ventilation fan options?
Once I figure this out I can move on to identifying an enlarger, and other stuff we'll need. Thanks!

Cracked LCD screen on D3100
in Nikon
Posted

The LCD screen on my daughter's D3100 cracked. I thought it was the LCD cover, which is now removed. How can I replace the LCD? Is it a DIY deal? If so, can you point me to where I can get the screen, and instructions on getting it in (and the camera put back together).
Thanks.
