  1. <p>I have a Tamron 70-300 VC and use it on a D7000. I love it outdoors in decent light. However, my experience is that in low light situations the auto focus search is pretty much useless, so I set the lens to Manual Focus. I get nice crisp results with good Image Quality. <br>

    Given the lenses you already have, I would suggest investing your $500 instead in a good tripod and perhaps some noise reduction software so that you can shoot this lens at a higher ISO and improve the results in post processing. Works for me at least. <br>

    Or save the money until you have twice that and buy a faster telephoto prime for when you want the really long reach.</p>
