I'm getting a monopod, how important and necessary is a ball head. I have a tripod with an inexpensive head that needs upgrading. The only time I can see that I would use a head on a monopod would be to tilt the camera 90 degrees/virtical shot. Quick release would be another plus.

I don't want this to drag out, sorry for reopening an already discussed issue. I'm new to the forum and web site. Thank you for your statements.

A friend sent me a photo of an old barn with a beautiful moon rise. I inquired about the shot and he told me that the moon wasn't in the original shot. I would never have been able to tell. I showed my wife the picture and she loved it, until I told her about the manipulation. I don't have the same problem with doing those things like my wife does, but it does raise the question, is it real or not, "is it live or is it memorex".
I would like to hear some other thoughts.

I just found out that my wife being a teacher can get Photoshop CS5 extended for $199.00. That sounds like a good deal, so we're going with it.

I have been using the trial version of PS Elements 10 for about 2 weeks now and like it ok. I shoot mostly architecture and landscapes. Off subject, maybe, I shoot in Raw and was wanting to post some photos in my file here and can't because they are too big or something. Thank you for the input.

Looking for opinions on these two softeware applications. Trying to decided, I'm using a Mac. I don't care too much for Apeture 3, and Photoshop CS5 is way too expensive if you can't get the upgrade price.
Thanks,

I have a Haze1 for protection more than anything, just purchased a cicular polarizer and was wondering about leaving that on most of the time rather than the haze filter. Also, I rotated the polarizer and didn't see any change in the shot. What are some other filters to purchase, I'm getting a variable neutral density as soon as it becomes available in my size. I shoot mostly nature/landscape with a little architecture thrown in, and the occasional wildlife.
Thanks,

Seems that the majority of you use the HD storage option. That is the way I will go for now. One HD at a time as I'm not a techy person. In fact I get frustrated with my home theater system. Thanks for all the ideas.

My wife and I are rapidly filling up memory on the computer. I've been told to store pic's on DVD disc, external hard drive, even paying for a subscription to an internet type of storage. What are some opinions as the best choice, and should someone have more than one.

I do have a tripod. The lens I use has vibration control, which may not be enough. I'm thinking of getting a mono pod for ease of use.

I am just dipping my toes in photography, and love it. It is also cool that my wife likes it as well. Thank you for the post and advice, I always appreciate input. Does anyone have a coment on the church picture posted above? Nikon D7000 with the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lens. Sorry its such a large file.

I forgot to say that mine is also a 2.8 stop. I realize that it's all about personal style and decision making, I just like to see what others are using this type of lens for. It's my only lens right now and my wife has a 18-270/3.5-6.3 and seems to get more shots. I'm looking at the Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6 VC, USD.

Just wanted opinions on how everyone uses this size lens, subject matter, etc.. It's a wide angle lens and the best use I've found is taking pic's of buildings and things you can get close to.

18-270 it is, thanks everyone.

I do have a Kodack DX6490 that I will put in the pack while riding. It's a good little camera and what I used before the I got the D7000.

I just purchased a Nikon D7000 with a Tamron 17-50VC lens. My wife has a D7000 with a Tamron 18-270 VC and I was wondering which lens ya'll would take to New Mexico Angle Fire Taos area for pictures. Its a mountain bike ride and I wont be carrying the camera in my pack just want to shoot around the cabin and hike a little. I wish I could take both lenses.

The decision has been made, thanks for everyones input. I will be back with other questions I'm sure. I went with the D7000 and the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC. I will post some pictures when I get some wurth posting.

I really like all the advice. We did purchase a Gittos tripod for around $150.00. I am a gadget guy and an artist that doesn't like to sit for hours doing my art cooped up in the house anymore. So I will definetly want to learn all the ins and outs of photography. I don't mind Nikkor lenses, from what I've been reading most of the price is in the consruction material, etc. and not so much in the glass, could be wrong. The price of a Tamron is half of the same thing in Nikkor. Do they really take that better of a picture. I will be doing some wall mounting with the pic's, nothing probablyover 16X24 or what ever that normal size is.

Thanks for all the good advice, I'm also new to this site. I really enjoy it.

I haven't yet decided what my shooting is going to focus on. So far we go on day trips on the weekend to small towns and countryside and shoot everything from flowers old barns, buildings and landscape and everything that looks interesting. I do like the advantage of having the same camera as my wife for the reasons mentioned. The 70-300 lens I was looking at was the Tamron which is considreably less money.
If deciding on the D7000 which lense should I think about getting the Tamron 17-50 or the 70-300

Just getting into photography, and can't decide. My wife already has the D7000 and likes it she has a Tamron 18-270 vc lense. I was trying to decide if I would better off with the D5100 and the two mentioned lenses or the better body (D7000) and just one lense for now. Thank you for your opinions. The lenses mentioned are Tamrons.
