  1. <p>daaaaaaaa, sorry dude, but try taking ANY photo 1 workshop with a good teacher like. Then, either<br>

take up the fellow who is practically giving it away, if thats what you want , or get a diana plastic<br>

camera, and start dealing with THE IMAGE, NOT WITH THE EQUIPMENT, though you would be amazed<br>

what students can do with it, as well is other exhibiting shooters. NEXT, try the new little amazing<br>

looking leica...(sorry, i still cant afford it, though i dream about it...) the x whatever...if you check out<br>

    the LCD you will see whats in front literally in B L A C K AND W H I T E...and youll go ooooooooooooo.<br>

i want that. just think, no equipment to log around, and you can let yourself be swept up by the<br>

image, god damn it. Your concerns raise the experience of this other dude who showed off his<br>

new canon at the moma when he first got his hands on digital equipment...i think he took 3 (not 2)<br>

trillions images, not one of them any good, but he was in canon heaven, so go figure. Some folks<br>

are just hung up on equipment, and its you, yes you, who are making all these companies raise<br>

their god damn prices ok. you heard it here first.</p>

  2. i dont think her style ever 'fell out of fashion' but i DO think

had she had well known (affluent, most likely) parents in the

community the way diane arbus had...maybe some curators would have

taken a closer look at her work...and even groomed her for her

15 minutes of fame (which she had, on her own terms, in my opinion...)

Not everybody needs to move in the direction of fine arts, and that

was not jill's choice, as it did become diane arbus's choice, and

she didnt even get discovered until someone else printed her images

with those (for then!) unique edges...which diane later adopted

herself, and often MADE her prints...(if you saw her show at nyu

not too long ago, those contacts were god awful...as some curators

    even articulated at the time...)

back to jill, glad to hear she is back in the city she obviously

missed...i never did understand why she picked up and went to florida

where b/w gritiness is not for the faint of heart, or those who

have been known to have blond, sunny dispositions...My husband back

then was shocked to discvoer jill's prints of cats for sale at

some flea market...he had remembered her from her maccann ericson

days, and thought she had fallen...On the up and UP side, her prints were

always amazing, and yes she did influence us all, and gave new

photographers a reason to hang in there in the darkroom...I loved

her irish prints seen in a gallery in the apple not too long ago,

and spotted her coming out of the gallery looking light as day,

though older, like the rest of us weathered nyc photographers...

sad to hear about her health issues, and hope its in the past, and

glad to hear she is at it again, and getting the attention her work

surely deserves...I still remember she was the only female photographer that even cornell capa could yield to...she was

probably also not taking shit from patronizing men who thought

they were top shit back when...we surely dont hear their names these

days, so much the better, since they could not ever stand up to

her glorious images...when the lady was good, she was tops...

keep at it, girl, and never mind the flaky media types...in the

apple they make a lot of noise, and after all it aint D.C. and your

work is there in LIFE MAGAZINE, AINT IT.

STAY COOL, I AM ROOTING FOR YA...ruth.

  3. does anybody know prices injapan, and what shop i could check for japan

prices for the NIKON P80 that will only be available in the states

within the month (according to todays REIVEW IN NYTIMES???)april 24,2008

I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU CAN GIVE ME AN IDEAN (ANYBODY OUT THERE)

if it pays to get the new coolpix nikon camera in japan...IS THERE ANY

    THANKS SO MUCH, r.b.

  4. KINDLY RESPOND...IT WILL HELP A GREAT DEAL...I am attempting to get the best

flat scans possible from my parents 9x12 'fading' print albums, so i can

have exhibition prints made (13x19 largest...) i had assumed it would be

possible with any basic flat scanner that has ICE program with it, although

i DO want to have the varied colors that old prints have been transformed into

in the album (from sepia to b/w, etc)(DO I SCAN IN B/W OR COLOR?)

can some one recommend: 1. basic scanner/and or lab that would be reasonable

initially in the scanning 2.TELL ME WHAT THE SETTING SHOULD BE TO PRODUCE THOSE

SIZE PRINTS 3. IF I WERE TO DO IT MYSELF (FINALLY...) DO I NEED TO HAVE PHOTO

SHOP ON WHEN SCANNING, AND ALSO HOW MUCH SPACE WOULD I NEED ON MY COMPUTER

TO SCAN ABOUT 15-PAGES FROM THE ALBUMS...

    THANKS SO MUCH.

    I APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK. R.B. (iruttie@yahoo.com)

  5. the widelux will be no different when shooting film than other

slr cameras, its the negative that will have more info in it,

obviously. someone had already said it...if the prints are good,

the scans will follow suit...i did like the b/w print of the dog...

will make ME try using that film in the future... i use infra

film in mexico...but what you should be mindful when shooting in

the middleeast (especially in egypt) is the dust and intense heat...

so bring your filters and polarizer filter along...and yeah, bracket!
