1.
Hi Jeff,
Thanks - I'll have to get back to you on that. I don't have a suitable shot here.
In the meantime, perhaps you could let me know if you think something looks a bit off and, if so, what might contribute to that?
Thanks!

 2.
Hi,
I took the attached photo with an X100s. Here's the EXIF data 1/300 ISO 800 f.2 0EV. I've highlighted the focus area in green.
Understand that I could have chosen better settings but it was first outing with the camera and I was probably rushing a bit :(
I've noticed that some elements seem to be quite out of focus and lack detail - even when they're close to being at the same distance as the focus point - especially towards the right side of the image.

Would appreciate any thoughts that you might have.
Thanks,
Spencer.

 3.
Hi,
I've just got a new X100s and am hoping for some advice on the best RAW converter for RAF files; as a long time Capture NX2 user, I really like and have become used to some great features that I don't want to give up if I can avoid it:
The first one is the opacity adjustment, where it's possible to blend any adjustment with the previous step in the process - great!
The second one is being able to toggle each step so that you can look at the changes you're making. High Pass on! High Pass off! Speaking of which, I also like High Pass.
LR5 and Capture One 7 both handle the RAF files nicely but neither of them offer opacity/blending sliders and only LR5 can toggle steps - but not all of them. CO7 can sort of do it but you need to use both hands ... :\
I'm hoping that someone can point me in the direction of a package that will help with this and that isn't Photoshop. I don't have the money or the need (though if I had the money ...).
I have a Mac so only Fuji Raw Converter is available - that software is reeeeallly slooow. On a fast Mac one image might take 15 seconds to preview, and when you make a change the same again. Hopeless!
Would love to hear from someone who can advise on good choice of app - or explain where I'm going wrong!
Thanks!
Regards,
Spencer.
PS. Is it just me or do we all agree that the Capture One 7 user guide and online help are utterly useless?

 4.
Hi,
I'm thinking about upgrading my D80 as well ;p
I like street and travel photography and am sometimes stumped by the D80's low light inabilities.
My lenses are Nikon 18-200 VR, Nikon 24mm 2.8 and Nikon 50MM 1.8.
So, I've been thinking about a new camera. I've got a few options in mind;
Keep using the D80 and buy a Ricoh GR as a low light back up;
D7100 and use the D80 as a backup (with the zoom);
Fuji XE-1 with the 35mm 1.4 and use the D80 as a backup (zoom, again)
I'd like to think about a full frame - but I really can't afford it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Spencer.

 5.
Hi Guys, Thanks for your responses both philosophical or technical :) I have 2.8 24mm, a 1.8 50mm and an 18-200 - all Nikon. I'm mainly interested in urban scenes and I want to preserve the feeling of the place that I'm in. I know that I can achieve a larger image by using the zoom but I like to use available light and it's too dark and not terribly sharp at some apertures. I suppose I'm trying to capture what I see and the setup I have now seems to give results that are smaller than real life. It's not always possible to get closer either ... Thanks again! Regards, Spencer.

 6.
Hi again,
Rodeo Joe is thinking what I'm thinking - that the people at Nikon are probably going to read this - or have an outsourced social media 'consultant' prepare reports for them on the things that people are saying about their products and services on the web.
Joe and Walter are both right in saying that Nikon aren't obliged to act. However, if enough users make comments and start conversations like this one - Nikon are more likely to act.
In this case my, hope is that act means 'tell us what's happening' - even if it's bad news.
Cheers,
Spencer.

 7.
Hi, I'm just hoping that Nikon will read this - they should be - and take pity on us and tell us what's actually happening. If they're going to release an update in two year's time, or cancel altogether - I just want to know either way.
It seems like a reasonable thing to ask. Doesn't matter what the news is - just tell us what's going on.
Finally, good luck to those who have actually got it working. My machine, which is a replacement from Apple, came with Lion: I didn't upgrade. The message I see is 'OSX no longer supports Rosetta".
I'd prefer to avoid rebuliding my machine ... and still have the quality I paid for when I paid for the software.
Thanks for all the suggestions and comments; Nikon? It's your turn now.
Cheers,
Spencer.

 8.
Dear Nikon,
Please tell us what's going on with NX2.
We, your loyal fans and customers, would like to know when Capture NX2 will be ready to work with Lion. Alternatively, perhaps you could tell us when you are hoping for NX3 to come out.
Just so we've got some idea and can stop trawling the web for clues.
Thanks,
Spencer.

 9.
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses.
I don't want to go back to Snow Leopard if I can avoid it - but will if I can't find an alternative. The problem with NEF is that Nikon haven't revealed all there is to know about handling NEFs and as a result users have an advantage over all other packages when it comes to converting these files. I'll try Phocus though and see how it works out.
A few people on Photo.net have said that they've got NX2 t work on Lion - I just don't see how it's possible :) I guess I'll have to try it for myself if I can't find another way. Suppose I'm trying to avoid further annoyance.
Thanks again Guys.
Cheers,
Spencer.
10.
Hi,
Due to a few problems with my iMac, Apple replaced it with a new one. I'm pleased that they did, however, Capture NX2 is not compatible with Lion.
There are a few people claiming that NX2 works on Lion - I don't see how this is possible as Lion does not support Rosetta which is required for NX2 to work. I can't even install it let alone use it.
I am tired of waiting for Nikon to even make a formal statement about the future of this package let alone actually release something.
I've tried using Photoshop Elements 9 but NEFs just don't look the same as the results from NX2.
My questions then;
Is there a raw converter that I can use that will allow me to convert NEF files as well as NX2 converts them?
Do the people at Nikon look at the forums? Can't they give us an estimate of when NX2 (or 3) will be ready, or, tell us that they they are not interested and will hand everything over to NIK?
Sorry for the rant :)
Cheers,
Spencer.

 11.
Hi Everyone,
I just bought a copy of PSE 9 and when I open a NEF file many of the edges are really jagged or staircased (which is a better term?) to the point that some the edges look like they're from Monkey Island :(
The strange thing is that it doesn't happen all the time. When I open the file and display at 43% the problem occurs, but if I display it at 50% the image looks fine.
No problem in NX2 though.
I'm using OSX 10.6 on an iMac with an i7 processor and 4GB of RAM.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!
12.
Hi - thanks so much for all the responses - I really appreciate it.
It looks like two lenses might be the answer.
There are a few reasons I wanted manual focus;
firstly, I wanted to try and find a lens that would work well on both cameras and felt that I had a better chance of finding something if it were manual;
secondly, I want a lens with proper DOF markings, Hyperfocal indicator and an aperture ring - not many of the autos seem to all these features;
finally, I have had the FM2 for a long time and feel more comfortable with manual focus - particularly when I'm struggling with the D80 exposure weirdness.
Thanks again for the help - it's great to know that there are so many passionate and interested people out there who are willing to help.
All the best!
Spencer.
