The "Hamrick" driver is the SCSI device driver that ships with Vuescan. When you install Vuescan you'll get asked whether or not you want to install this driver or the one that shipped with your scanner.
Do NOT install the Canon drivers or the Adaptec ASPI software - just install the SCSI driver that ships with Vuescan.
-
FYI, both Canon FS2710 & Nikon Coolscan V ED scanners work fine with Windows
Vista.
Nikon has just released a Vista version for the Coolscan V ED (other presumable
work as well). Simply install the software - Vista will recognise the scanner
accordingly.
I managed to get the SCSI based Canon scanner to work with Vuescan. Install
the Hamrick SCSI driver (you will be prompted at install time) - no need for
additional ASPI layer software. Vista will (should) detect your SCSI card
automatically. If everything installs correctly you'll see an entry "SCSI
Scanner" in the device manager.

Thanks for all the replies. I am looking forward to finally see this part of the world.

I plan to travel around the Deep South in the second half of February, with a
focus on Mississippi and Louisiana (Cajun Country and Mississippi Delta).
I am into people photography and would appreciate any pointers about festivals,
events or just interesting places (besides New Orleans).
Thanks in advance!

Interesting feedback. It was ADEAL who gave me that quote. When I asked what a CLR service actually entails, I didn't get the impression they know what they are doing, despite the high cost.

I called the local Leica distributor here in Australia to inquire about the
price for a standard CLA for an M6.
Apparently it is about $US414 and this does NOT include shipping the camera to
Germany.... IMHO this is ridiculous and wonder how much you pay for a CLA in
your geography?

Great shots!

Thanks Craig, I'll check it out.

How do you record information on plastic slide mounts?
I have been using rubber stamps, waterproof ink in the past (slides number,
date, copyright) and hand writing for the rest (location, country, etc.)
The result wasn't always impressive and I look for a more sophisticated
solution such as labels or printing directly onto the slide mount
Are there specialised printers out there or can I do this with a standard
inkjet?
Thanks for any tip and ideas.

I'll be visiting Singapore soon and plan to buy a Nikon Coolscan V ED scanner
& and some film. Are Singapore prices competitive compared to the U.S.? Can
someone recommend a good store for these kind of goods?
Thanks, regards

a no brainer - buy in Bangkok.

I still own an FD kit (2 F1-N and a bunch of lenses) and the only reason I don't use them as much as before are a couple of gorgeous Leica's.
I will go digital at some point, but the value proposition today does not stack up for me. Why should I pay three to four times more for a digital camera to get a similar image quality (or worse) I can get from a film camera? I don't pay for their R&D.

Born in Switzerland to German/Danish parents, married to a French with a Belgian dog, live in Australia. Have two M6, one from Hong Kong the other from U.S.A.

Whatever your decision, be warned these little cameras are not only beautiful but highly addictive....
I posted a similar thread a few years ago to figure out whether or not to keep my F1-N SLR's I've used for 20+ years.
Well I did - but I hardly use them anymore.
-
Gosh, wouldn't it be good to live in the U.S. Seems to be easy to buy and process Kodachromes. Not here in Australia..... Thanks for all your advice - I'll try the E100 and Velvia 100F.
-
What would you recommend as a replacement for Kodachrome 64 film? I
switched to Fuij/Astia/Sensia/Provia out of necessity not conviction.

Douglas,
I am aware of these reports and take them very seriously (a former customer of mine died in the Bali bombing).
Having said that, a bunch of lunatics should not prevent any of us from enjoying what is most likely a wonderful people and country.

I will spend a couple of weeks in Indonesia and would love to see all
these places, but have not enough time.
From a photographic point of view, where would you go and why?
-
In December sunrise is shortly after 7am (Sunset is around 5:10pm) in this part of the world.
Given this I would try to be in the park at least half an hour before sunrise (and/or stay at least half an hour after sunset).
Looks like you have to bribe a Rancher :-)

Wow Preston - love your portfolio! I prefer people and street photography so it appears Dubai (and the UAE in general) have something to offer...
-
I have an opportunity to visit Dubai for four days early next year.
Instead of shopping, I plan to hire a car and drive around the UAE to
shoot nice pics..... Any recommendations?
Leica M9 why so much ?
