Sorry, I only now notice that you stated the model of the camera you have used. The lighting indeed looks like the result placing a hand on a flat-bed scanner. Maybe you could use softer light that didn't leave so hot hightlights and burn the colors of the hand.

You should teach your computer the binary numeral system. That way you would be able to count from one to 139234637988958594318883410818490335842688858253435056475195084164406590796163250320615014993816265862385324388842602762167013693889631286567769205313788274787963704661873320009853338386432.

You probably took the "photo" of your hand with a flatbed scanner. That results in not-so pleasing highlights in the places where the hand is touching the glass. Also the colors look dirty and noisy.

I can't see anything funny in imagining one's own child in a state like that. Violence is foolish. I really hope you never have to see your kid beat up like that.

It's a pretty nice documentary shoot. Bit too saturated for my taste. Why should the photographer try to flatter her?

I can't see the relation between the title and the picture.

  1. Thanks for your comment. I would have to wait for next spring until I can reshoot this. I personally like how the sharp flowers stick out of rest of the image. I have made another print of this with a darker background (the birches burned in).

The bright sunlit water is a too contrasty background for the dark girl. Her posture looks a bit akward. She doesn't seem to enjoy getting her clothes wet and sand in her hair. The composition isn't balanced, and doesn't lead the eye. Colors are missing the saturated glow of a sunset.

You could try to fix the contrast and colors with digital post processing. Dodge the model and burn the background, but not too much. A scan from the original film might help. Also try playing with different croppings. Maybe you get a chance to reshoot this? Good luck.
