    Guidelines:

    > Images posted here are available for general critique and discussion. You may specify a particular area of comment: even doing so, latitude will be given to responses which comment outside any specific requests made in the Opening Post.

    > Note: "No Words" is the forum to use if you do not want any critique or comment: do not request 'not for critique' if you post your image here.

    > As a general guide, as with all forums, keep the size to a maximum of 1000px along the longest side as that works well.

    > When you create a new thread you can also choose to use the function "Post a Poll". This option can tailor the specific critique you seek and / or to institute a voting system for your image.

You can leave this open ended OR you can ask they choose from your answer set - its something you can set up when doing the OP. You have up to 10....you could even make this your own "ratings" system - where you set your scale. ie - Ask the community to rate your photo based on following criteria of X and Y - then provide your own scale 1-4, 1-7, 1-10 - whatever rating scale you'd like.

This format lets the OP choose areas of concern or interest in a particular image - a few examples could be Composition, Exposure, Critical Focus, Color, Use of Light - etc.

Another approach, this photo would be improved by, then a series of choices to vote for. Could be as simple as this photo is Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor.

    An example -

I am private messaging her now to get more information to get to the bottom of it. Either way, we'll refund her money if her intent was not to have a subscription because she was not using the site. Below is a snapshot of what you should see in "My Account" - cancel subscription button is circled.
  3. I can investigate. We launched the new site in February of 2017, prior to that we did not have auto renewals, so my guess is you subscribed in February of 2017 and were signed up for auto-renewals. Email notifications go out prior to the charge occurring, so if settings were not changed the account would have been charged. We do not store CC information on file at photo.net - we have encrypted tokens from Stripe (who is our CC processor). But again I can investigate, I will send you a DM to get more information.
  4. We show no record of charging his account, I have a private conversation going on with him to get to the bottom of it. My sense is that based on his messages to me, he feels we charged him because he still has access to his account. In other words - I'm not sure he knows there is a free membership status available on photo.net, which is the status an account will go to in the event it does not renew. Again, I have a private conversation going with Kevin now to get to the bottom of it.
  5. We have had international prizes in the past and will in the future. I'm just telling you that in general, when we get a piece of equipment - those advertisers/sponsors are pulling from their country specific US budgets so they want the prize winner to be US based. We usually don't work with manufacturer budgets in UK, CA, DE (or fill in country not US) which is why we haven't had equipment prizes for our international friends. Generally speaking, manufacturer budgets seem to be focused by country and we rarely work directly with them on international basis. But again - we have had international prizes in the past and will in the future.
  6. For the process to remain credible, we must ensure that prizes are distributed in a timely and efficient manner, which has not been the case in the recent past.

Also, I would suggest that prizes such as lenses etc., not be accepted from sponsors for select geographical distribution only, PN has an international memberships and there should be equal opportunity and rights for all, on the assumption that these competitions are indeed a benefit offered to full members on inscription. Some cannot be more equal than others.

I agree John - physical prizes we get often (lens - for example) are often tied to an advertising campaign the sponsor is doing with us and those budgets are generally geographic in nature (ie US only) for a number of reasons like customs, shipping charges, etc.. Moving forward we can be sure to include an international prize and if necessary break it out separately. 40% of our users are based in US so we'll still likely cater to our sponsors requests, but be sure to have a prize allocated for our international friends and have those prizes be deliverable via email.

  7. Hello - I'm working on a schedule of contests for the next 3 months. If you have suggestions on a new theme you'd like to see - please feel free to DM me. I expect to have the schedule of contests it published by the end of the week.
  8. How do I block a member of PN from viewing / accessing my photos

If someone left a comment on a photo you wish to remove - you can do so. Simply mouse over your gravatar>click on Portfolio>click on Comments - there should be a link in there to "remove comment". Again if someone is harassing you - please DM me and we'll address it. If someone left a comment on your portfolio page - you can go to My Account and remove comments from your profile - then DM me and we'll address the comment together. 1798932486_ScreenShot2019-01-03at4_26_07PM.thumb.png.0179bc3794102257ebe8f01363e1868f.png

  9. Hi

This morning after reading a thoughtful comment on one of my pictures by Tatiana Ivanova, I made a lengthy reply which took me nearly half an hour to compose. I wanted to answer her question as completely as possible and so took great care in my reply For me this was always the heart and soul of PN, the ability to have a real dialogue with talented photographers. I proof read my reply carefully and when I was satisfied, I posted it. Or at least that's what I tried to do. It never appeared, just disappeared into the ether. This isn't the first time this has happened to me; it's just such "minor" incidents that thoroughly irritate me about this site. It seems that most of us simply shrug our shoulders and say that's just the way things are. What is it, two or three years since the changeover (I can't even remember) and we're still willing to accept the bugs and clunky site navigation rather than demand something at least as good as what we lost with the launching of V2.

If there is a word limit to comments on pictures, then say so. If not, then fix it, please.

Hi Jack - so sorry to hear your comment didn't post. There was not a character limit or a time limit in the requirements so I do not believe that is what the issue is. I will add this to the list and see if we can recreate the issue so they can track it down.
