1.
Hey all,
Just to let you know during my visit i did pass by Salam stores and bought a few Ilford 120 + 35mm film. Although I'm not a big fan of Ilford it was useful so thanx for that suggestion.
I also asked a few people i met in Dubai who still use film but they seem to order it all from abroad too. I didn't have time to check out the Gold Souk in Deira as recommended by Robert however so perhaps on my next trip.
I'm in Oman now and all they sell are expired Kodak Gold 200 which is just horrible!
I am starting a new thread which is much broader 'Where to find 120+35mm film in the Middle East' http://www.photo.net/film-and-processing-forum/00YQz5
If you have the time please copy/paste your recommendations as I think it would be useful to other film enthusiasts in the region, and as we all travel around here I'm sure our findings will be appreciated.

Cheers!

 2.
Hey all!
As an avid user of film and having just recently moved back to the M.E. it has come to my attention that film stock in this part of the world is rare and hard to find. With digital photography all the rage in this part of the world who still shoots on film, right? Well, ME! and to my surprise a few others too!
So, this is a thread that has evolved from a previous one that I had posted asking here on photo.net where I can find 120+35mm film in Dubai. I wanted to broaden the scope to include the Middle East, most notabley our Gulf neighbours, as I'm sure all of you film users travel around too, and by sharing our findings we can help keep film very much alive.

So here is what I found:

OMAN:

Photo Magic: This shop is dotted around Muscat and they only sell expired Kodak Gold 200.
I've tried this film despite the reviews and have to say I do not particular like this consumer film, unless its a super sunny day then the colors are not so bad. But generally, film that i can do without to be honest.
Photo Magic also develop C-41 films, but do not scan. I never developed my film there so cannot tell you if they do a good job.

Photo Centre: Located in Qurum, opposite CCC.
Do not sell film ( aside from Fuji Instax) but they do develop C-41 films, however from my one and only experience with them I would not recommend giving your films to the lab. Mine came back super dusty, scratched and wasn't fixed properly. They were careless and did not cut the film straight, sometimes they would cut into the frames. Funnily enough the Showroom Manager, who was really friendly and helpful, dissuaded me from sending my film to Photo Magic and instead convinced me to have them process it. BIG MISTAKE! Never again. Be warned! Great little shop for all you digital needs tho and the staff is really friendly.

Bahrain:
Ashraf: Located in Manama.
I bought 2 boxes of Kodak Portra 100NC from there in January though think they discontinued selling them because no one shoots film anymore. Yawn.
Also, right next to Ashraf is my go to lab where my friend Boney Jose ( what a pimpin name right?!) hooks me up big time with developing + scanning. He handles my film with care, there are no scratches, dusts or finger prints and he knows exactly what he is going. He's really amazing and if you want your films to be in safe hands, rest assured he is your man!

Future Studios: On the other side of the road to Ashrafs.
They sell 5 year old expired 120 Fuji Superia CN ISO 100. I've used it and the colors are just fine, just make sure to pop it in the fridge when u buy it. So far I've had no problems. They do rip you off with the price tho considering its expired...5 years ago!! But if your desperate and charming you can get a decent enough deal.

Hope I've helped, please share your findings. And to those friends who already shared in the previous thread place take a moment of ur time to copy+paste it on here so its easier to find in the future.

Cheers!

 3.
Thank you all for the replies.
I'll be sure to check out all the recommended places. I usually order my film from abroad but thought it might be easier and quicker in Dubai for now. In Bahrain I've been finding lots of expired 120 film that work just fine but nothing higher that 100 ISO and im looking for at least 400ISO.

 4.
Hi all,
I've got a hasselblad with a 2.8/80 Planar lens on which I would like to remove and replace with a 180mm.
I was told that before I remove the lens i should cock the shutter by advancing the shutter dial and then releasing it, and to double check that i have done it correctly i should look through the view finder and if i can see an image then its ok to change it thereby avoiding the locking problem.
can someone please confirm that this indeed is the necessary steps i need to take before changing lenses.

thanx in advance!

 5.
Hi all,

I recently purchased a minolta xd-7 which came with a morris 300tx-d flash and i cant for the life of me figure out what the colored dots correspond to! HELP! I've scoured the web in search for a manual or maybe a forum post or something but alas! I end the day with no results.
I've attached a picture for your reference, if anyone knows anything about this flash please share it with me!
Many thanx in advance!

00Xy7V-317451584.JPG.f9531269bd9c055138c6de23447c5281.JPG

 6.
Hi all!
I recently took 3 rolls of color negative film to be developed and when i got it back all i can say is SHOCK!!! HORROR!! first off they were cut into sixes, which is fine, but the ends were sloppy and they actually cut INTO the frame. Secondly, they are scratched. Thirdly, its full of dust!
I am totally infuriated by their carelessness. It was the first time I used them and the guy totally convinced me they were the one!
Anyways, my question is what would be the best and safest way to clean my negatives. Can i rewash with a bit of photo flo?
I've attached a picture so you guys can get an idea altho its not the most severe of them all. There is also a straight thin purple line running through all the frames, would that be the fix?

Thank you in advance for all your help!

 7.
Hi all,

Many thanks for everyone's reply. It was really helpful. I've finished the roll and am anxious to see the results. I followed everyone's guidance as suggested but a few times i had to guess as when i put it on automatic for eg. it would show the f stop at 1.7 if i put the shutter at 1/250 but this doesnt mean it is the correct exposure as the camera is smart and would lock ie.refuse to release the shutter.
anyways i think when i see my first roll i will begin to understand how to use it more. many thanks for everyone's reply, much appreciated.

 8.
Hi there,

I was wondering if you could help me with regards to a query I have about the Olympus 35RD. On the side of the lens there is the option to specify the IS0 according to the film used, but it only goes up to 800. What if the film in the camera is 1600 ISO film, how can I tell the camera that without compromising the outcome and what effect would it have on my pictures?

Thank you for your time.
