That is a great shot.  The black and white is very nice.  Love the light and the reflection of the dog in the glossy step.  I think the vertical lines of the columns going away from the viewer is nice. Though it seems that the dog and the woman are together, it would be funnier if they weren't.

My dog sleeps like that.  Had him for two years and it still cracks me up.

Fantastic.  Absolutely fantastic.  Light, dark, mood, composition plus the amazing birds.  Black and white treatment is great.

Would love to see a larger version.

There is nothing to critique.  I can't think of one thing you could do different to make this better.  The reflection and the texture of the water are amazing.  Very nice.

A lot to like.  Color in the sky is great.  POV is great looking up the slope of grass.  DOF is excellent as well.  Nice shot all around.

  1. Matthew,

Getting in the water would have been an excellent idea.  In fact, I am now noticing  several shots from that trip that would be much better if I had used that approach.  That water was cold, but the day was warm.  It would have felt nice for a short period of time.  Thanks for the input.

  2. Thanks all.  Patrick, I did crop that log out and printed it.  I do like that crop a lot and will use it.  I also adjusted the exposure based on recommendations from the previous post.    Thanks again.

Any thoughts on the headroom on top waterfall section?  Should I have left more headroom there?

  3. Steve,

Thanks for the input.  One of the problems I have shooting wide angle is the desire to put everything in the frame.  I do need to start looking at tighter framing.  I am going to play with some crops on that image.  I like the crop you did.

Also, getting rid of the light spots in the trees not only improves the composition in my mind but allows the exposure to be raised without clipping those spots even more.

I had my tripod raised pretty much all the way when I shot that.  I need to experiment with shooting from a lower angle.  That would have been a great perspective on that scene.  I love the wide angle, but have a lot to learn about using it.
