  1. For what concerns people size, they are undoubtely too small, so they are a fake. I'm not against photo manipulations per se, and I understand that where to place the limit is a matter of taste (so any discussion about this topic is useless). We could instead discuss if this kind of photo manipulation is ok in this photo. To me it looks like this wasn't the right place for this kind of manipulation: the St. Paul Cathedral is really huge and there should be no need to reduce people to deliver this feeling...
  2. Just to add some "environmental" information: it isn't precisely true that "everybody smokes in Italy", even if in Italy people smokes, on the average, more than in the USA or UK. But, most of all, nobody is allowed to smoke in a church, museum or similar place. You will be immediately thrown out if you try :-).

Nevertheless that "beam light" phenomenon is quite common in churches because of incense (spelling?) and, most of all I believe, haze. I never tried to get it into a photography, but I don't see any reason that would prevent it from being registered in the photo.

  3. I've been missing from photo.net for some months (just took a peek sometimes to the POW but I must say that there were just a few people who made interesting comments - one was Tony - and I noted that most of them don't make comments any longer, so definitely I don't care POWs anymore).

Then I was curious if there were news in Tony's folders. It's always a pleasure to see Tony's inventive. BTW, I've just bought a D100 too. And the idea of these mega-stitches is intriguing (obsessive? Maybe, but fun!). I won't be as skilled as Tony, but I'll give a try.

    See you later!

Excellent use of negative space, complemented by the "shadow texture" on the left, the mountain profiles floating in the fog and the small but delicious pinch of pink at the right.

You were definitely skilled both in properly capturing the image and in finding the magic moment.

Wasn't Lassie saying that he just wanted to have fun?).

BTW, I'm posting the original Leonardo's drawing just forthe sake of comparison (BTW it seems to me that the square and the circle are in the samerelationships in both images).

My problem is the overall aesthetical result. Going into details there's quite a mess in the centerof the image, near the model's belly. What I see is something that looks like when I jam twoslides into my projector. There are some objects (is it a draping?) that look confused andI don't understand why they are there. My eyes are continuosly moving near the center searchingto focus on something and they can't, and I find it quite disturbing. The model attitude is too simmetric - yes, look atthe feet and the lower legs in the original Leonardo's drawing and you'll find that he was able to break the simmetry a little. OTOH I find that Lassie's image is too static. Moreover, themodel herself does not match with the subject, I mean she looks like a model for a CD cover,a fashion magazine, a soft-erotica magazine, everything but a classic subject like this.

We are thousands and thousands of users here, we cannot expect to see only things that we like.An POW is not a 'premium', it is just a pick over a photo that fosters discussions. I'm learninglots of things even from stuff that I dislike.

No problems about digital manipulation, the technique may also be very good, but the overall

result...is just ugly. Good as a proof of technique, but the comparison with Leonardo sounds

hilarious... I don't feel comfortable with most of other Lassie's work, but at least is original.

Not too busy. After all it's a bird colony, so it must be busy. I like that all the birds are just sitting

with the exception of the one with the head up, and blur at the wing tips is ok to enhance the still/motion

contrast. It would be also better if the bird at the left had wings down (thus leaving the first bird the only

    contrast in composition).
