Sorry, I think I posted in the wrong section.
I guess it should go in the mirrorless forum... how can I delete the post here?

Hi there,

I'm curious if something like this may work or it's just a stupid idea.
I've Nikkor lenses and I'm already using them on EOS camera with adapters like these: http://amzn.com/B001G4QXLE
They work just fine.

Now I'm wondering if I could use the same lenses on a Sony A7s using an EOS to Sony adapter, something like this: http://amzn.com/B003Y302CG

Why? Because this way I could simply buy one adapter only (EOS to E-mount) and use all my (adapted) EOS lenses (Nikon, M42, OM and so forth...)

Do you think this would work? (I *really* hope it can work!!)

@ Puppy Face
good point!
I totally forgot about that, I'm using only manual and I've that 18-55 sitting in my bag.
Time to sell it! :)

Thanks Jos,

I was planning to use it on a FF mirrorless though...

oh :/
thank you Charles!

Hi there,

I've a 18-55mm lens (http://is.gd/fJ80km) and I use it on my 7D.
I'm wondering if it's gonna work on a Full Frame camera and if so, what issue I can have, i.e. vignetting, ca, etc....

Thanks for your advices,

this seems a tough one then. I'll look for used tripod, I guess I need to find some good Pawn shop as well.

Hi there,

my old Slik came to an end right when I bought a slider. Now I need to buy a new tripod, but budget is very tight, maybe $80 at most.
Considered I should use it for video and that, at this point, I could probably combine the new tripod with the Slik in order to have a steadier solution to hold the slider, is there any recommendation within that budget?

Thanks for any help!

Thank you for pointing that out Rodeo Joe.
Then I think I'll tell her to choose either the extension tube or the 55mm.
Best.

art tyree,

is it the one I posted above?
Nikon 55 F2.8 MICRO AIS BGN $79.00
(Bgn from Keh are usually good enough btw)

All right, after reading all the advices, I'm narrowing this down to these options:

- She could use a diopter, easy, inexpensive.
- She could go with a reverse lens, still inexpensive, easy to set up (she's got already an old Nikkor 50 1.8)
- Last option, she could buy a better lens, either a really good one or a used one.

As for the good, new lens, I don't think she'll go that way due to the budget.
I followed your advices and looked on Keh and also that eBay Tamron.
Here's what I've got now:
- Tamron SP Tele Macro 90mm f2.5 $177.50 (shipment included)
- NIKON 28-105mm 3.5-4.5 D MACRO ZOOM AF lens $134.00 (shipment included)
- Nikon 55 F3.5 MICRO AI BGN $72.00
- Nikon 55 F2.8 MICRO AIS BGN $79.00
- Nikon 35-105 F3.5-4.5 MACRO AIS EX $45.00

I've to double check about mounting compatibility about the last three, if I'm not mistaken they should work.
At this point I would take into account the chance to borrow the lens from her now and then and use it on my Canon as well ;)
I'll let her know about the options, but what do you guys think about the lens choices?
Anything good among the old lenses I posted here, or they're no-go and if it has to be a lens then it's only the Tamron?

Thanks!

Wow, thank you all for helping I wasn't expecting so much help!
I'll go through all the replies, as it seems there's a lot of information on these pages.

In the meantime, the lens on the D3100 is the lens kit, the 18-55mm.
I thought to the extensions tube but I forgot about the diopters. That could be a good solution actually as will be faster to use than the extension.
But first I'll read all your replies. Thanks a lot.

Hi there,

tight budget, around $150. I'm looking for an acceptable micro lens for a friend of mine, I saw this one: http://amzn.com/B0012X43P2

price is in the range, but have no idea how good it is.
I need it for a D3100, mainly to take around, I don't think it will be used on a tripod or with a release shutter.
Subject can be: nature (insects, flowers) or interesting textures. I was gonna tell her about also an extension tube, maybe a combination of lense+extension?

Thanks for any help.
Best,

Thank you all for your replies.
About the 18-135 it seems the STM version should be better than the Standar IS, is that true?
The 15-85 seems very interesting, especially because I was considering the extre 3mm as Mark said. It's just a bit over budget, but I can probably find a good used.

Hi there,

after having spent some time with old, manual lenses, I'm thinking to keep them for video shooting and buy a good zoom lens for my Canon 7D.
The budget is limited and I've no experience whatsoever with modern, automatic zoom lenses.
Said that, this is what I thought could be a starting point, but then I'd love to hear your advices:
Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM - http://derpy.me/laKzN
Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM - http://waa.ai/c5n
Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Standard Zoom Lens - http://waa.ai/c5G
Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM - http://waa.ai/cnE
Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM UD Standard Zoom Lens - http://waa.ai/cn4

Besides the 18mm, the only one that goes a bit further is the 15-85, there are two things I'm considering about that lens though: the budget is not exactly what I had in mind and it's *only* 85 whereas the others go to 135 or 250.

The main application for this lens would be street photography, i.e. from people to buildings.

Thanks for any help.

No one?

Hi there,

sorry if the Category says books, it seems there isn't a dvd category.
Has anyone watched "Beyond the Camera with Tom Maddrey"?

I'm curious about this course and I'm probably gonna buy it, just wondering if sombody already watched it and can give some thoughts.

Thanks.

Thank you all for your advices.
Mark Keefer: I considered the Tokina, but is not easy to find a used one.
Vincent Bester: The Canon is over budget, even for a used one :(

At this point I think the Samyang is a good solution and I can probably live with the filter problem, or in the worst case scenario I'll have to consider a matte box.

-

Yes,

I've read good things about both lenses, if I'm not mistaken they're same lenses as Mayang. I think I've to live with the filter issue and go with one of these.

-

Jim,
not sure to understand your point about being only full frame.
This is a 14mm that works on 7D as well, same thing as Mayang and others:
-

Hi there,

I'm thinking about a wide angle lens for my 7D, maybe a 14mm that with the crop sensor should be good enough as I don't like too crazy wide angle.
The main usage would be videos but stills as well.

I've done some research and for my budget, i.e. $400 at most, it seems that Samyang (or any of the other brands variations around) could be quite a good solution. There's some distortion even though I guess that should be more noticeable on full sensor cameras.

Anyway, one downside I see is the use of filters as the only solutions I've found so far are not cheap.

What are your advices?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your replies.
I see the advantages of raw, in fact I use it all the time. Nonetheless I was wondering about this chance to retain picture styles since I could see more room to work on the shadows starting from a superflat style.
I didn't know about DPP, I'll give it a try, thanks :)

-

As far as I know the raw image retain full information. Thus, if I shoot using the B&W picture style on my Canon, the raw will look with full colors. Same if I choose Super flat. The question is: is there a way to retain the picture style also for Raw and not only for jpegs?

Thanks.

-

Thank you all for your replies. At least I'm glad to see as I thought only a calibrated system could fix the issue and there isn't much left to do on my side.
