1.
Greetings all. Once again I'm enjoying the wonderful photos posted so far.
This time I was playing out under the stars and moon. This is my 1st attempt at combining 2 exposures to cope with the wide dynamic range of the moon and the clouds. Actually did the combining on my camera, and quite impressed with the options you have to do post processing on the D5000.

00WaWg-248663784.jpg.cae97db4afa40b33bd429faa8e2338c6.jpg

 2.
As someone who owns a D5000, I find the 50mm f1.4 AF-S lens really great for shallow DOF. Just a bit of an investment. The 35mm f1.8 being next on my list, and pretty cheap too. Sadly the 85mm lemses from Nikon will be manual focus only on that body. Hello Nikon?

 3.
Morning all. Once again, alot of very good photos today.
Must say though, Jana Hughes photo is absolutely stunning! Real class.
Thought I'd try something different this time, and some roses came in handy.

00WXeQ-247043584.jpg.d3f80b1efbc0ba8d127efccbc7e51d15.jpg

 4.
Happy wednesday all.
Not much from my side. Been too busy with moving and work to get out. So for now this is my attempt at coping with a brown dog on a brown chair. Gimp to the rescue. (maybe)

00WUdo-245237684.jpg.58f32aaab79ba97cb5886654900c246f.jpg

 5.
Hi all.

I'm only a few months into photography, but already being asked to take portrait photos of friends. I'm enjoying it immensely, but as quite a few are what you would call ample or curvaceous, I'm hoping to glean some insight into how one could try take more flattering photos. I am starting to develop some insights, but any advice and guidance would be very helpful.
Things I'm looking for are flattering poses, how to use lighting to help, even down to tips on outfits and settings.
At this time I'm pretty much working on location as such, and don't have much in the line of extra lighting.
Many thanks.

 6.
Hey all. Again it's wednesday, and as per usual, the quality of the pics is awesome. Leaves me wondering if I should even post considering the level here.
A few that have caught my eye are:
Greg Kowalczewski
Adam Zyto
Louis Meluso
Grant Tanner
Weston Fryatt
Marc McCoy
Peter Heritage
From my side, didn't get out with the camera this week, so posting an older one from earlier this year.

00WRfl-243531684.thumb.jpg.1132b353d1f5913ea5749bf0233b550f.jpg

 7.
Hey all. Please excuse me for not singling out specific photos, but there's just too many. The quality is so high on this forum.
I got asked to do some photos for a friend this last weekend. My 1st formal portrait session as such. Was fun, but long. Here is a sample.

00WOiF-241835684.thumb.JPG.ca6d4ab0a6f0919341659bb12cf32c3c.JPG

 8.
Greetings all.
I'm finding I really look forward to this page each week. Really fun.
The posts that caught my attention for whatever reason so far:
Enrique Rabelo

Weston Fryatt

Arun Seetharam (very natural HDR)

José Arnaud

Wouter Willemse

Daniel Hinckley

Aguinaldo de Paula (wonderful atmosphere)

Kent Shafer
Cory Ammerman
From my side, a pic from my brother's wedding last saturday. This was one of the bridesmaids with her son. Really caught my imagination. Shot with a Nikon D5000, 18-55mm VR at 55mm, 1/60s, F7.1, ISO 1800.

00WLWz-239979684.thumb.jpg.a843b6a9326999f393be2ab05b3b4906.jpg

 9.
Plenty here who are quite knowledgable.
But also, I see there is a photography club in George. Maybe drop them a message and see what they are about (George Camera Club
PO Box 2552, Mossel Bay, 6550).
But the 2 local mags (Pix and Camera & image) have been running some good tutorials. And plenty of articles under the learning tab here.
But, the best way to really learn your camera, is to use it. Even if it's stuff that is not photo worthy. The joy of digital is it costs nothing to take pics and experiment. Also, it's great to find like minded people and do outings. Really fun sometimes.

 10.
Hey Nadel. (sorry, don't know the keyboard shortcuts for special characters)
Welcome to a really fun and challenging hobby. Between the articles online, ( some good ones here) local photo magazines, and some fun half day courses, I'm sure we can get you up and running.
Let us know where in SA you are, and maybe I can refer you to a local photo club as well.

 11.
Greetings all. How time flies.
Not been out in a while, and keep missing opportunities as I never have my camera with.
This was from 2 weeks ago. Was walking past and my friend decided she would grab a close up pic of the Lichen. So I decided to try something a little different.
Love the standard of pics here once again, but a few that caught my attention:
Gej Jones
Lil Judd
Pascal Burel
Tony Hadley
Ray Gosalia

00WI3g-238159584.thumb.jpg.b67c59758d1158659586c958c27be120.jpg

 12.
Hello all. Thought I'd do the friendly thing and introduce myself.

I did a bit of photography many years ago in the world of film, but fell out of it. A few months ago I invested in a Nikon D5000 with kit lens, a 50mm F1.4 prime, and a SB-600 flash. The main reason was to help a friend with her wedding, but finding I'm really enjoying getting out there and simply taking photos.
Still very much an amateur, but loving this site and the forums.

 13.
I have a D5000, and the autofocus system does give you a indicator of focus. Uses the exposure bar graph indicator.
But then, don't know if it will work with manual focus lenses, as I don't have any to compare.
Trying to remember how the system works. Autofocus motor is in the lenses, but the focussing is in the body. So the focus assist should work, correct?

 14.
Hi there. Thought I'd add my 5 cents as I've just done a wedding in similar circumstances.
I got asked to help a friend out who simply didn't have funds for a professional. And if I didn't they were going to rely on friends with point and shoots.
The gear I had to hand was a Nikon D5000 with a f1.4 50mm prime and SB-600 with stofen.
Even with alot of zooming by foot, it was a challenge. A decent zoom would have made my life alot better. On quite a few shots I've had to simply crop. At least shooting RAW at 12mp helped.
And the flash is a must. Even outdoors it was so helpful for filling in.
The challenge with weddings is there is not time to try redo or compose. Alot of the best candid shots are simply point and shoot. And yes, a 2nd body with another lens option would have been so much better. A 2nd photographer heaven.

BTW, this is my 1st post, and I'm still very new to the hobby.
