1.
Thank you Matt for your extensive write up. But I am looking for other alternatives as I already have your suggestions in mind.
Reading my earlier post I realize I was not understanding.
The thing I am refering to isn't a regular stand that can double use for mounting strobes/grips/flags,etc.
Its purpose is solely to make the foam core stand upright. What I have seen is that the thing is know less then 6 to 10 inches high. Two of these would suffice in holding the board still. Now I have no clue whats it called.

 2.
if this is your first tripod, I would go out in the market and buy a cheap set of legs and head to start. Use that as your preliminary test as to see what your preference is like. like, how tall or short your tripod legs are when being used. Do you like pan heads better or ballheads? how heavy is too heavy?
but if time is sensitive and with $800 bucks to spend, go with a gitzo, giotto, induro. all these brands have positives and negatives so much so that would require you to research. adorama.com has a very effective search option for tripod selections. eg. height, weight, load. etc.
button line is that only you will know whats best for yourself, and the only way to know to by experimenting. second i would suggest to go to the store and feel the tripod out.

 3.
photography started out as drawings
the history of photography started out with a tool known as a camera obscura (still used today in modern camera). it was the phenomenon of turning that landscape scene into light but during then they couldn't record that light, since the technology of daguerreotypes was not invented yet. so what did they do? they put a piece of paper overlaying that light and drawn over it. Now i am not sure if they painted it on top afterwards but its a possibility.
but its apples to oranges here. they are both here to stay. i can't say much for painting as i don't know much about it.
but what was so fascinating about photography is that it brings balance (balance is the key to everything that we do) . Balance from the real vs fake. Cause if you paint a landscape the person viewing it can still question whether that scene is real or not. But with photography it is still real in essence cause it was captured in that moment. The person seeing it will know that that place actually exist. You don't have to outdoor to paint a landscape scene, you do with photography.
in addition to this balance, photography turns 3d into 2d. life size into smaller or bigger size. and color into black and white. You see, reality is changed in photography but yet there is a balance cause you know that thing that you photographed exist. but as with any other medium you don't get this balance.

 4.
There is a road map for everyone learning something. In short, Rules are the first stage, bending it is the second, and third if he is able to break the rule, that is when he has establish himself significant in that industry. To end the circle he would pass on his own knowledge on which i believe is the pinnacle of what one should reach to achieve.
And to bend the rules, you need to know what they are. Which mean studying whats out there. Looking and seeing, be curious, try and experiment, have ambition.
And to break the rules, one must have self-reliance on his work. Don't listen to what other have to say but what he believes his is own heart. This will eventually lead back with great reward. In due time your in most with become your out most. Imitation is suicide. From the works of Emerson titled Self-reliance. I recommend everyone to read it. The great master of our time have all broken rules.
so to the OP yes, you learn to unlearn to go your own way.
from the series P.P

 5.
homepage- take out facebook and twitter and the words enter. people would know to click the image to enter. Have a random pic each time the page loads.
interior- put together"contact""about"blog" vendor" under "information"
-change "more" and add those "more" pics onto a new category called "personal"
-take out "home" from the main nav instead link your logo to go home
-"Weddings" category change the submenu names instead of using "gallery I" use the names of the bride and groom (this might be a problem because of privacy?) either way think of something more interesting.
optional - i would prefer to move the whole main nav up top where your logo is. and move your thumb nails to the button instead of the left

 6.
your website will work. its just need to be more simple. some of the things your don't need, some are unclear.
-take out all your "foto" its everywhere, it sounds like you are pushing it, and trying to hard
-change "set" to "works"
-change "contact andy" to "contact"
-take of "Foto hire" and move all that to "contact"
-take out film strip, and foto-andy...com, put "Foto Andy", i would suggest you have someone design a logo for you, you can use your tag line. but it is not working, a tag line is suppose to give you a concise introduction to what you are about. what you do, and most importantly, what makes you different.
-your search bar, just put "search"
-the navigation to the right of the sliding headlines with images, has to go, you already have it up top on the main nav.
-take out "Home" from your main nav, and have your banner up top where your logo is link to home.
-also your headlines on the images has to be redesigned, the typography is not working.
-move "All fotos are free for personal use... only. You must contact me for commercial use" down to the very button footer with the copyright info etc.
i would like to help, email me if you decide to take my suggestions, as their will be another round of mockups to go thru.

 7.
sure
For one its distracting to see it in each and every one of your images. Either way if one really wanted to use your image they can just crop off your copyright info from the bottom
Two, putting it on is amateurish. The professional way to do it is to put it somewhere in your about page and put your contact info on the metadata. Would be a problem because your site is flash base. Most importantly registers your copyright images. Button line if people want to really use your image make sure you can be reached.
Three, Photography is art nothing should ever be written on in. Exceptions are when it is done for art sake.
Your photography- on the surface
Not only are some of the images duplicates in composition, there is no consistency to your images. Some images are black and white some are sepia. color tones and contrast are off . It doesn't flow well and is not pleasing to the eye.

 8.
Overall your site is good. Love the name.
Your logo needs work.
Take of "photography" from the logo
Take of "home" and have your logo link to home.
Take of "gallerie" and have "pawtraits" and " Annie and Fergie" on top. (and any other galleries in the future)
Move "Info" "About" "dogblog" down to the footer. Dog blog is a good name not as great as Ruff prints. Work on that.
Move "© all images and words copyright Karen Francis, ruff prints photography" to your about page.
I also would take of all the copyright info off the photography.
Most importantly, your photography needs to be edited down more. Its not working.
Let me know. I would like to continue helping you.
