Thanks gentlemen for the help!

Does there have to be film in the camera to get the reed indicator? Currently I wind and wind but no indication. The mechanical bar connections seem to be missing components sadly. I guess my options are to use it as is or find a parts camera?

Good Afternoon,

I picked up a Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 521/2 today at garage sale. Speeds all work well, glass is in great shape and the leather bellows are still light tight. Sadly I did not notice until after I got home with the camera, that the body mounter shutter release is in no way connected to the release on the Prontor-S Shutter. Does anyone know where I can find parts to reconnect the shutter release, or should I just use the camera by tripping the shutter on the lens itself. The Lens is a 3.5 Novar Anastigmat. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone! It was an incredible experience. I work at the local airport as a line service technician and was glad I brought the camera with me to work this time. The M5 is really turning out to be a joy to use, well worth the year of working and trading up to it.

Thanks everyone for the advice. It is greatly appreciated! never thought to try it at sunset. I may try it from a local parking lot on Tuesday. I have ramp clearance at the local general aviation airport I work for, so I may try experimenting with some of the small planes as well.

Hello Everyone,

I am planning on this week going by SFO airport at night and trying to take some long exposures of landing aircraft, but have no idea of where to start as far as apertures and shutter speeds. I would be using the M5 body and either a F/3.5 Summaron or F/2.0 Summar lens, or even possibly a 90mm F/4 Elmar. Has anyone ever tried to do shots like this and could anyone possible give me some advice?

Thanks everyone for the input. I usually am shooting aircraft, old ships, or cars at the moment. I would really love to be able to have a flash to try doing some shots of my friend's swing band when they are in clubs as well, which made me look into a flash

Which flash do you recommend for use on a Leica M5? The local Leica dealer demoed a Metz 54 MZ3 and it appears to be a great flash unit. What are your thoughts? I really have no experience with using flash units.

I would have to say the Leica M5. Incredibly accurate meter, easily accessed shutter speed dial, and I love how it feels in my hands. I took mine on a trip to Copenhagen last month and I could not ask for a better camera.

I have the F/3.5 Summaron with the M3 Goggles that I use as my default lens with my M5. I was very nervous about purchasing it at first but am incredibly glad I did. It consistently yields amazing results and am looking forward to using it on my travels.

Thanks Jeff!

Hi Carl,
I purchased an original Leitz made adapter for use on my M5 and I could not be happier.

What about the Yashica 35 Electro GSN? I have one that my uncle gave me and it works great and the lens takes beautiful images.

One more of the M5

What kind of gear bags do you recommend?

-

Francisco that is absolutely gorgeous! I will try and take a photo of mine to put up here.

-

Thanks everyone for the replies. Right now I am trying to track down a strap for the camera so I will be less worried about the possibility of dropping it while bringing it on a trip I have planned next month.

Francisco, it is a silver 2 lug. Right now the lenses I have for it are a 135mm Hektor, 35mm F/3.5 Summaron and my old 50mm Summar.

Hello, this week I purchased my first Leica M, an M5. So far I am absolutely in love with it. What kind of strap do you recommend using with the M5?

-

Out of curiosity, would the 35mm Summicron with goggles work on an m5?

-

What are the thoughts on the M5? I found one at the same price I was planning on purchasing an M3 for. I do like the built in meter, but really know nothing about the camera.
