Mike , Do,t beat yourself up! We all get GAS attacks from time to time. My current favorite lens es are the Canon 35 2.8 and a CZJ 5cm 1:1,5 I was lucky to find in an old junk shop. The Canons ARE built well. Some say better than the leica. Can't say myself as I don.t go for those cult cameras, but a Canon. .. ... well that's a nice piece of hardware. I'm a retired carpenter, after 30 years it east to spot a really good tool and a pretty good tool. RED

Arthur, Ask this question on ZIforum.com You may have better luck. There are a lot of knowledgeable gear heads on that site also. You may have to run that address through your browser. Good luck, next to a genuine bargain I love to fix old cameras. Even if the fix doesn't work, it was broken anyway. Good luck RED

Darin, count your blessings. My Canons take a 40mm thread.

Who knows, maybe Fuji, in there haste to release the camera over-built and these first ones will last 62 years like my Canon P's ! Na-a-a-a-a

Rick, I do know what you mean. Me, I'm left waiting for a meter, the seller claims "might" be off one or two EV's. After I bid I realized that I had twice before decliner to bid because of the country of shipping, and nobody. .. ... NOBODY, had bid , but me. Ominous signs all. Pray for this poor addict. But who knows, it MAY be a fine Canon Light meter on my P!

Sorry to bust-in but I have the FT2, are there different batterys needed for these also?

Hi, some very nice cameras have been shown here. However give me a rangefinder for now. I just can't be trusted around a program or auto button. I find that for me full manual is the best way to improve my poor skills. It's taking time but improvement does come. For now I'm using a Canon P, with a czj 1:1,5 sonnar f=5cm T .

Gene, At highway speeds? The way I hear it The cops in pursuit would wait for the kids to hit 98 mph, the fins would take over and lift up the rear - end, bringing the speed down to 92 or so then catch-up and collect autographs. But the cars . .. ... they looked real good.

To all that responded: Thanks, I see what you mean.

No choice- -- the Canon P & I MUST go out! There's lots to do but nothing to be done but do a roll.
The P is fronted by a CZJ sonnar 1:1,5 T gleaned from an unsuspecting 2ND hand store dealer :) I'll try to post some
pic's if I can figure out how. It's no wonder I stick with the classic cameras ! How would I ever figure out one of the
new hunks-o-plastic; anyway their always obsolete the day after they come out. One of my Canons was made in
1949(canon III)and STILL captures a breathtaking image. I must go .. . where will you head?

I was reading the other day a thread about what is (or is not) a classic camera. would a Bessa R be considered a classic?

-

I like it Lou, you take out, I believe, 99% of the contention. The classification in one group or another is like crying about being on say the "red team "or the "blue"team . Let's talk about our cameras, how we use them and how we might use them better. No ones camera will stop working if it ends up in the "wrong" group. The owners of the cameras will, in fact, have a better chance to share with others with the same equipment. I see no loss, only gain. Thanks Louis, thanks for your time.

PJ, There are many sold on E-Bay everyday. A word of caution do some researce, find the right lens for your needs. A costly lens is not always the best lens. Mostly a popular lens IS popular for a reason. The Rangefinder Forum is a very good place to ask. M-39 lens may be had for under $100 and then the price goes up! Good luck.

Andrew, looks like you did have a great time on your tour. Just one thing before the next one don,t let anyone get you to try out a Canon P or a 7. Sure Pentax offered a truly great camera. I have two ME's "resting" in the cabinet next to the K1000's and others. One day ,one dark day I was loaned a Canon P, HOOKED! After only a few rolls of film I had to have my own. The search for a favorite lens came next, that's right, buying a screw mount rangefinder leads to lens hunting. (14 so far) So please, some words of caution, if someone offers to "loan" you a Canon rangefinder, DON'T take it . Step away and pick up the closest SLR you can find look thru the viewfinder and remember what happen to me .

Thanks everyone. The lens is a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar !:3,5 f=50mm . Tust wanted to try it out on something inexpencive, only cost 10 bucks.

Anyone know of a camera or maybe a conversion ring to fit this 50mm lens? finding an exacta in working order at a decent price is proving to be a big job. Did anyone else use this mount on their cameras? Thanks, Red

A classic -working- free-camera! Yup, I could find a place in my collection. So your the "old camera guy"- not a bad label to have, too bad we couldn't ID young potential photographers that are out there, 'present them with a classic', and help rebuild the ranks of filmdom.

For quite some time now I've been searching for a Canon Camera Holder L to use on my P & 7 range finders. Is anyone out there actually using one ? Is it a good tool to have? They must it seems be quite rare or very necessary as I've never seen one for sale. The adventure. .. continues. Red

Picked up a link on another site. The chance to see her work up close may come but I live far from Chicago. The work I've viewed so far is quite, STUNNING is the word I believe. Enjoy. http://vivianmaier.blogspot.com/

Gee Steve, thanks for sharing your bit of propaganda, but you've got the wrong forum! This one's about cameras , not politics, or should we ALL start touting our own personal pol ital views? Me, I'd rather talk cameras & film & technique here.

Kent, On my Bessa-R the best I can hope for is a one meter close-up. Some adjusted Jupiter 3's can move in a bit closer.(ck w/ the Mad Gearhead Scientist at RFF) Most of my own work has been close-focus with a Manual Focus Vivitar CF lens. It worked on most of the canon's I own. After five years even I (slow learner) have grown tired of flower close-ups. Pretty but so what! At present this shutterbugs just trying to master my classic rangefinders. Canon's mostly make up the bulk of my users at this time. If the lens comes off--- it's a LTM (M-39) . For me now, learning composition, exposure, and speed is keeping me quite busy thank-you. I hope you are able to solve your close-up problems. Red

Right now all I can use is the P as everything else (except my Bessa R) is packed up! Wrinkle City or Bust next Wednesday. The Robins Nest is located in Baton Rouge but soon will relocate on the Suncoast! Moving over Christmas yuk! But the way has been made so I am thankful. My only regret is I said "I'll shoot that next year" too often and for this area next year may never come. I will really like this area (hurricanes and oil spills excepted) but new vistas awate! Plus. . .. I still have to choose which Canons to keep. I'll probably just have to start my evaluations all over again photography conditions MAY be different in a different city.

Did I break my Canon 7?
