I like this image as it is, and without backlight that would have transformed it into a regular looking studio portrait. The flow of the hair makes a nice looking frame of this person's face. The face "sticks out" and this is what is good about not having used any extra lights. The focus point seems to be at the lips, and the eyes are the secondary focus point. Usually, eyes are the focus point. This is another plus.

The sharpness of the image is good. The background is not busy. The only "negative" aspect may be that she is looking not at the camera but sideways. Eye contact would have made this image more powerful. Else, it is fine.

I used a Canon 7.5mm fisheye lens on a Bessa L with a home made

viewfinder to take this image of Pensacola Beach (Florida, USA). Your

Her eyes are strong and beautiful. I would only have liked her head not to be cut off from the top, and the open space on the left adds somehow to me noticing the cut part.

    Hello Starvy,

    Thank you for the comment.

I have several lenses, but I have a special preference for vintage lenses, such as the Summar. I also use an old Elmar 9cm/4, and it performs very well. Using a lens hood with older lenses is useful to bring down the flare.

amin, i came to this picture through your forum links for it. this is a lovely picture if you love that leica glow. it does lack the contrast or definition compared to recent lenses, but most of us use old leitz glass for the glow, not pin point sharpness and depth of field as induced by a point and shoot digital. the most charming aspect of the picture is the level of emotion and innocence caught by the sumar. it is a fine picture. i use a 1937 elmar, 9cm f4 for the occasional portrait or two. the glow is very similar and always very flattering.
