I also love this look. Personally I use Portra NC film exposed at box speed and then pull down the saturation and contrast in post.

I know that Wendy Bevan uses a Polaroid SX70 with expired SX70 film for those crazy colors and soft focus.

Hello all,

I'm searching for my first tripod which will be mostly used with my Mamiya m645 1000s and also a Hasselblad 500cm (both with 80mm lens).

I'm so overwhelmed by the choices. I want it for night long exposures (going up to 8 mins at the moment) so I want something solid that won't move under the weight of medium format equiptment.

I don't want something the weight of a car, I want quick release and I don't want to break the bank, but I don't want to go cheap.

So what are the standards here?

hi all,

today i noticed that my m645 body's shutter speed wheel has become very loose. when changing speeds it no longer has any 'click' lock from speed to speed. it just rotates almost completely smoothly when the wheel's center button is pressed in. it's always had a nice solid click when changing speed. for some reason it's now very hard to move between 30 and 15 settings - i really have to force it between just those two speeds.

so how do i fix this? can i adjust it myself?

thanks!

thnks peter.

jeff - I've set out boxes on the blurb pages and they tell me the optimum pixel dimensions, but all the photos i'm inserting are much larger. just need to scale them down

Thanks Martin

Hello all,

I'm making a Blurb book - is there anything I should keep in mind as far as editing goes for these books? How is their printed color quality?

Thanks,

Hi guys,

I'm putting together a blurb book and wanting to convert everything to 300dpi - Are there any simple and free programs out there for Mac to do this? What are you using?

I don't have photoshop..

Thanks,

I will do this - thanks guys.

Jeff - I don't want to involve frames. I'm thinking of having them mounted on black laminated MDF which will measure flush to the edges of the print.

How are you displaying without frames?

Hi guys,

In a few months I'll be hanging some large prints of my 645 shots - about one meter on the long side.

how are you guys mounting photos for gallery exhibitions?

is there a paper i should be looking out for when it comes to printing at this size?

i'd love any info you have on this topic - thanks!

Hi guys,

I'm going to NY (manhattan/brooklyn) for a few months at the end of the year and looking for some great labs to process all my film - half half 120 and 35 mm all color negative.

Where does a young guy go for nice developing and cd scans at a good price?

looking for somewhere easily accessible and quick turnover - it's 3 days here in brisbane for 120 :(

Thanks so much.

there is something special that you can do with the sx-70 - you can get the look that only it can provide.

i strongly believe that the polaroid sx-70 is something special - i think every film photographer should try one out.

it's not just about the sx-70 film, it's about the soft focus and DOF and color replication on any film including the 600 film.

i actually just finished a little blog on buying your first sx-70. if you're reading this thread and want more info on the camera have a look:

thanks guys.

so i need my incident from the hand held, then i can check out the reflected with my camera's ttl metering to get an idea of what's going there and adjust to taste to control shadows etc.

being new to the world of hand held meters i just want to make sure i'm using incident and reflective properly together.

thanks again.

light meter newbie here.

for portraits with this kind of natural light feel, where would you be metering with the light meter?

i use a mamiya m645 1000s medium format camera with an 80mm 1.9 lens and a new sekonic L-308s meter that i'm not sure how to use to it's full potential.

i know practice makes perfect and eventually i'll be able to harness light like this, but any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys - I was being so careful remembering to change the body speed that this aperture business slipped my mind.

so my first three rolls aren't rubbish? such good news.

Thanks!

I'm a total newbie with this kind of thing and I think I messed up.
Just got a Mamiya m645 1000s with CdS finder as my first camera with a meter and the manual says to meter with the lens on auto, but after putting three rolls through it I realized that I forgot to change the lens back to manual before taking the shot.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't this mean that I shot everything with the lens wide ope at 1.9? Do I need to flick the lens from 'A' to 'M' to take the shot every time I finish metering ?

Thanks,
